Bit disappointed with the sound of the new 2016 eagles. It doesn't have the same intense long high pitch ring sound as other years i have (2011 and 2014). Also doesn't seem to be as white, looks to have a very slight coppery colour. Can someone please give a reason for these things to happen. Could it be due to some impurities in the metal or maybe a different way the coins are cooled?
I don't think they are fake as the design looks perfect. I got it from Perthbullion.com Also I don't think the long ring is something all silver coins do. Some coins ring more then others.
Which number did you ring? Toll or Toll Free?? International may have a longer ringing compare to local
All the frequencies look good, so that's a good sign. So I'm really in the dark as to why the new 2016 coins damper off faster.
Do a magnet test and weight test. If your coin proves to under or over weight send coin back for refund. Ignore any shills that contest that your scales are inaccurate or that you used adhesive on your magnet. If coin proves to be fake, find another dealer and reward them with your hard earned money and ditch PBC..... And just like on Mythbusters my case was CONFIRMED ....Refer to avatar for more info...hehe
The coin looks good in all areas: Diameter 40.6mm Thickness 2.95~mm at high point weight 31.3g magnet has no attraction to it. design look perfect frequency signature match Like i said before i don't think it's fake, rather I'm just interested in knowing why after all these years the sound of that nice long ring dampens off faster now in the 2016 coin. So something had to change slightly in the coins production process to alter it. Not all silver coins have a nice long ring, for example the new 2016 silver kangaroo dampens off very fast. I'm guessing it's due to the design of the coin with all the ridges.
Different years of the ASEs seem to have different "finishes" I don't know why that is. Several I've had like the 2010 almost have a matte type finish then others had tons of mint luster bouncing off the coin. I haven't bought any ASE's in a while because I don't want to pay $3+ over spot for bullion anymore. So I don't know about the 2016 coins. I know my silver Maples don't seem to "ring" very much and I know they are real. Jim
Yea I've noticed that different years have different finish too. Maples have never had a nice ring sound, think it might be due to the thickness of that coin. But Eagles have always (i think) had a nice long ring, so very odd that this would change.
I know that the US Mint gets its blanks for ASE's from 3rd party companies, like Sunshine. Maybe they get some from other places and they "ring" differently than from others? Jim
My 2016,s are the same as my 2015,s both from PB perhaps you are expecting too much or looking for too much? ASE,s are a fantastic coin to buy and hold onto but I doubt you can call the 2016 by its sound? over its "being"? Just me lol
I don't have a 2015 coin so maybe they are the same as the 2016. But against a 2010, 2011 and 2014 coin the 2016 has a very noticeable difference in the duration of the ping/ring. Do you have an ASE from 2014 or before? Other then that the only other option i can see is what Jim4silver said. US mint gets blanks from different locations, so some coins are going to be different from another. Maybe its just by chance that all my 2010, 2011 and 2014 blanks came from the same place and therefore sound the same.
I can't wait to hear your findings If you live with someone they might think you're crazy, i know my partner probably thinks that when i spent a few hours dinging coins.
I have 2 full sets of ASE,s from start to 2016 and yes there is a variation in coin appearance (re silver blanks used )but anything post 2008 is not worth hoarding in my opinion 2007 was the last true ASE,s all those after are just making up collection years to me.
Can you explain what you mean by"last true ASE"? is there a difference in quality? Would you be able to put up a comparison photo between a pre 2008 coin and 2016 coin?
