    Recently I bought this coin.

    I have previous 2011 and 2010. I search for mintage, but I can't find .

What interesting about the 2011 design is that it is nominated for COTY in "Best Silver coin" here is link to article:

    http://numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=25861

Which coin do you think has best chances to win?

    hello guys,

I'm new here, I'm a collector for a few years now. Only one of the few here in Belgium (Europe)

Indeed, these are nice pieces. But have you looked for the previous collection yet before the elephant came out?

From 1998 to 2004 it was the somalian monkey. Struck by a german reffinery.

From 2004 it was the somalia elephant....

Welcome to the forum! They are very nice coins, 2013 is already available in some places, but not sure if here in Au. There has been discussion here before about the mintage. Some dealers on the web say it is 5000, but that may just be for proof coins??

I didn't realise the monkey was a previous series - thanks for the info.

Don't know about the ''best design'' since I don't know what it is up against. If it wins I guess the popularity will go up even more.

    here are my elephants ...
    http://postimage.org/gallery/1gakeo9s/
no info on mintage of dates I have

as of 2013 ordered one already (but 2011 and 2012 are still missing)

as of 5000 mintage - it is for proof, not bullion ...

P.S. ruanda wild life series are good as well ... ordered rhino and cheetah ... earlier dates of these coins are sold way higher

Somalian monkeys is a very different serie, it was minted by an USA mint, SoftSky Inc, between 1998 and 2004.
But it's true that the serie African Wildlife didn't start in 2004, there was another African Wildlife serie between 1999 and 2003, but issued by Zambia instead of Somalia, both minted by the same Germany company, Bavarian state mint.

Just joined silverstackers. Been reading lots of topics recently, and thought i'd pass on some info on the mintages for the somalia elephant. Like many others, i searched without luck for anything that would even give me an idea of the numbers. I eventually got this from a reliable German dealer.....

The elephants from 2004-2008 were minted in relatively small numbers (for a bullion coin), and their mintages are well below 5000, with the 2005 elephant being the scarcest coin.
Due to the increasing popularity, the Bavarian Mint had then mass produced the coins starting modestly for 2009 and 2010, and then with ever increasing numbers (with the output of the 2013 BU silver elephant being in excess of 1 million).

    Sully,
what about Zambia coins from the same series?
Can you ask German dealer about elephants from Zambia?
I believe they were made in the same place as Somalia elephants

Didn't know the number was that high. But a very nice coin in any case, one of my favorites. Picked up a couple of 2013 rolls on a sale earlier this year, Apmex seems to be the only big dealer in the states that has them.

    worldbubble,
I will certainly ask about the Zambia elephants, and post if i get any info.

    Hellcat,
Only recently discovered this series, and yes, they are special. tbh, the news of the large mintage for 2013 (and onwards) hasn't taken away from them, for me. It's always a fine line between buying what you like, and weighing up the potential as investment. Some may only focus on investment.
I try to combine the two. I couldn't just buy coins if i truly didn't like them myself.
I remind myself that years down the line a beautiful coin will always keep its appeal, and will always have a market regardless of mintage.
imo you did well to pick up a couple of rolls.
btw, can i ask do you leave yours in the rolls or capsule them yourself?
    I'm going with capsuling them.

Sully, I agree completely. I'm pretty new at this and still learning, primary goal is to stack as much silver as possible at the price closest to spot. There are lots of bullion alternatives when you are just starting that may all be worth only spot but make for a nice assortment to own (Sunshine mint stuff, NWTM, and Scottsdale just to name a few). Recently picked up some of the "Don't Tread on Me" rounds that Provident minted but they were a disappointment. But simple bullion rounds can also be a tad boring. So I also go for coins like these elephants when I can find a good sale. Like to pick up a few of those with a higher premium like the Canadian Wildlife Series just for the shear enjoyment and if someday they bring a nice return, all the better. True, these do tend to divert me somewhat from my stated goal, but they do make the journey more enjoyable. So far my elephants are still in the tubes and I think they will be fine there but agree that the capsules are the way to go.

This is one of the coins I did a group buy on a month or so ago. (Group buy = no money made on sale)...one of the best bullion coins I'd have to say.

@wordlbubble: nice collection! I'm collecting them too, but missing a few from the list.
was lucky enough to buy them a few years back for about 35 euro's.
I'm still missing the 2004 and only have 2 of the zambia's

@silvercoinsshow: your videos are so beautiful :) It's better watching them on your channel than taking out the coins myself :p

Nice coin. :) Will maybe try to buy few. :)

    Yeah, I totally agree with you. :) I don't buy coins I don't like.

What do you think by capsuling them? They aren't capsuled by default?

The high relief version has only 1000 mintage?

Then there is one with privy mark.

How much did you pay for coins? :)

    Hello Stark
Unfortunately, not capsuled by the mint. Come in rolls, machine packed.
My personal preference is to transfer them into airtites.

You are correct about the high relief - 1,000 minted. To be released any day now.

    Hello Sully!

That is quite a pity. :)

What is the mintage on standard release? Several thousands?

    I think I will buy 10. :)
