I said I wouldn't buy these things again and I spoke to my local guy and asked if he had any or on the way. Said he has 6 so I said I will take 2. Now I come home read this tonight and will probably go back and say I will take the 6 or can't tell yet. Certainly different, but have had so many bad experiences with series coins. Also had some good too hence the
I don't know why people are bashing this coin or any other coin. If the buyer has money and wants to buy, then so be it. I know of people spending $2000 on 1 oz silver coins, it's their choice and their money, they can do whatever the hell they want to do with it. </rant>
Shameless plug http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-23171-auction-ends-tonight-2012-opal-koala.html
Not bashing the coin at all - just the predictions of 'this will be $1000 by next year' and 'those that sold at $200 will regret it!' It is these types of comments that encourage others to buy, creating the shortage and a self-fulfilling early spike in prices... ... then reality takes hold and the prices come crashing down (for a large majority anyway - some do go higher - you just have to pick the right ones) Fully agree if you like the coin and want to collect it, buy it. I personally couldn't care less what happens with the price of these - best of luck to everyone buying them and hope you backed a winner
I was looking to buy some plat bags from Auspost website and saw that they had these listed as 'out of stock'. If it's anything like the proof dragons back a few months there will be a few retail Auspost stores holding onto these Koalas at release price. So next time anybody pops into Aus post it might pay to have a look around and see if they have this on sale somewhere.
I called the main office up and told them to check every Auspost Australia wide, they are all out of stock , however I do know that auspost is happy to sell more than 1 per customer
WTF - $399 SOLD BIN Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...l9R6RrQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_1413 Edit - Sorry was for 2, still $200ea
I managed to corner one of these opal koalas in a post office ... it had to come home with me at the retail price of $129.
yes, I think you are right. The one I have now looks really awful, very dark, and there is a small mark on the inner silver circle around the bear. I am thinking to sell it on Ebay. And I may be barely not losing money, since I bought this one from a dealer , who has already creamed off one layer of profit , for $170.
This is the best photo I've seen of this coin, thank you! The coin is inherently hard to to shoot, getting the opal colors to show without flashing out the coin seems impossible. Any tips you can share on how to do this?
Perth Mint got a new shipment of the Opal Koalas in yesterday. Mum stopped in and grabbed one for herself and one for me as well as a Welsh Red Dragon each. It was only 1 per customer so I had to order mine over the phone and authorise her to collect them. It would appear they are only available in the mint shop at this time. Still not available online. Edit for spelling of koala, left an a out.
Thanks for the compliment Pic was taken at night in my display case with display lights shining on the coin. Positioned the coin to bring out the best of the opal design. Camera placed on tripod, macro lens. Settings were aperture priority prob around F4.5 and ISO 200 and click. No flash used.
pushingtin, thank you very much. I have a friend with something more than a phone camera that has offered to help me get a pic of mine at the end of the week. If it turns out anywhere close to this I'll be thrilled. Thanks again! Edit: The best I've been able to do using my phone. /sad
