Does anyone know where I could purchase these coins to complete my Kilo set? I am having a hard time finding these. Thanks all!
These coins are subject to reminting (all Lunar Series 2 silver kilos can be reminted until the end of this series) - hasn't happened since last January to my knowledge, but remints are being done. Only applicable to the 1kg size in this series. So don't pay a fortune for them.
My understanding is that the wholesale dealers will probably place an order for remints, but they still control the prices. So prices remain high regardless of reminting.
No last time they got reminted they were all available from dealers at the regular kilo lunar price the same as the current kilo at the time.
It's not true at all that the series 2 silver kilos can be reminted after their dated year is up. People who assert that are not being honest. That applies ONLY to the bullion version. The proof versions have a strict limit. You can buy the proof versions right now without any fear that the PM will remint any of them. .
You know you could have just pointed out that the reminting only applies to the bullion version and not proofs, without needing to claim that anybody is trying to be dishonest
Dealers don't want folk to think of the 1kilo bullion lunars as collector items...why? imo...Dealers want to sell metal. Dealers will embrace the restriking of kilo lunars if demand is there and... why shouldn't they when some of the earlier kilo lunars "had" a low mintage (New mintage figures pending March 2014). Keep your eyes peeled on this pdf document...see page 2 of 3. http://www.perthmint.com.au//docume...nar_Silver_Bullion_Series_Two_2008_-_2013.pdf Dealers are not collectors they are in the business of selling metal just as "Mints" are in the business of selling metal. Having said that we have seen some dealers hoard other nomenclature of restruck coins to sell at a very healthy premium to what they were selling for when first released! (So are flippers and stackers on the secondary market) Why don't Stackers, Collectors and Flippers want more Kilo Lunars struck? We don't want more coins added to the mintage so that these coins may gain some numismatic capital gain! We rarely get to see an Australian bullion coin with a low mintage and as will will see the 2008 and 2009 kilo lunars may have a very large increase to their mintage figures. Ok...for the series 2, we are now stuck with all the Kilo coins from 2008 -2019 that can be re-struck. If you don't want to see previous years re-struck why not right a nice letter to the people who make the coins "Perth Mint"; often a letter that describes your concerns gets results but to sit on one's butt won't achieve anything. Personally, I think all bullion coins should be mint to order and declared one year from release except for the 1oz Lunars which should continue to have a limited mintage. Lets hope everyone can make a dollar or two...Dealers and The Secondary market; lets also hope that the dealers we support can continue support stackers by using logical suggestions and arguments to ensure "mint to order" for all bullion gains momentum for the future.
