I was told recently that the 2007 Silver Kangaroo was released on 3 different collector cards. Does it really matter which card your coin is mounted on? Is there a particular card that is more desireable than others? Thanks for your help. This photo is huge. Wow. Sorry about that.
Nice coin - don't worry about the large pic - I'm sure someone will be able to answer yr question BTW - welcome to SS and your first post, or as we say here (only to yanks tho) G'day Mate
I do not think makes much different what card you have as all carded 2007 silver kangaroos are 3rd party packaging.
Obviously does to collectors. The above card is most desired and sells for more than the blue card. The uncarded coin usually sells for half of the carded versions. Yes, the packaging is sometimes worth more than the coin.
Wonder how difficult it would be to design and print up your own card... ... and suddenly 'find' a previously 'undiscovered' and 'very very rare' version....
For the current year: http://mintissue.ramint.gov.au/mintissue/eshop_browse.asp Most post offices Every coin shop in the country For previous years, anywhere you buy coins - silverstackers, coin shops, ebay etc.
They are available here in the U.S. but difficult to find. None of my local coin shops carry them. EBAY seems to be the best place to get them as far as availability. The series started in 1993 and I started collecting them about 3 years ago and now have a complete set. Back when I began collecting them, many could be had for $35 - $40 each. Now it's around $80 each to buy the higher mintage pieces and much more for the more scarce ones. The one I pictured on this thread is an extra I had, so I currently have it listed on EBAY here in the states with the auction ending in about 10 hours. One potential bidder sent me a message about what the card said on the reverse. Once I answered him, he started bidding. That's why I asked you guys if the type of card carried any importance. Bidders are all from the U.S. except one, who resides in Australia. Sure appreciate everyones help on answering my question regarding the card. I have learned some things on this forum in a very short time. Also noticed how friendly and polite forum members here seem to be. Really makes a new guy feel welcome. Thank you!
Hey mate, from what I remember the mintage on the card pictured was around 3600 with 4200 to 4700 of the other card. Read the numbers along time ago so just rough estimates but its something like that. The rest I believe were released just with the case. Card above seems to fetch 300-400 depending on timing where the blue seems to go for 250 (even apmex sells at this price).
Hi did a search on Ebay last sales for brown card were $350 and $470 BIN. The last blue card had 25 bids and went for $355
Them are some lofty numbers. Not sure if mine will go that high or not. It's sitting at $277.00 now. But, there's still 3 hours to go in the auction, so we'll see. You guys are just full of information here. Australian coins are my favorite and it's great having you as a resource.
I have seen the coin on its own without the card go for around $150 most times. Strange how people are willing to pay an extra $150 for a piece of card, now that's collectors for you!
Total mintage for the 2007 silver kangaroo was 4000 coins. RAM decided not to make them at all in silver, but after request form dealers reinstated the coins (without packaging) on the condition that each order was at least 500 coins. The Mint reinstalled the 1 oz kangaroo in 2008.
