So I picked up a 2005 Silver Rowi Kiwi in a hologram blister back from my local coin shop for about 2x spot. I'm curious about the coin, does anyone know how many were minted and what its worth. Ebay has them listed for a lot but I don't see them selling often. Sorry no pics right now even if I knew how to attach it. As you can tell I'm fairly new to the forum.
That was a great price to pay for that coin although the premium has come back quite a lot recently on these The 2004 is the pick of the crop and the proof version even more so
Proof set 2004 - 2008 with COA displayed in a natural NZ Rimu wood case with individual number carved Mintage of 500 only
The series started in 2004 in both carded and proof silver coins Very low mintage numbers for the first few years approx 3000 and as they became more popular from 2008 the numbers started to increase anywhere between 2000-3000 In 2009 they released the Icon kiwi series 2009-11 Followed by the kiwi treasures series 2012-14 around 5000
Is it really possible to find a two eye blinded dealer that is running a coin shop on this planet who is selling such a item @ 2 x spot ?
You might want to check out this auction that is happening on March 4th in Wellington (e.g. bid by email, etc.) http://jrmowbray.weebly.com/ I think lot 636 is the set you're looking for and it sounds like they have an estimated sales price of $1000 NZD + auction premium...
I'm sure he paid spot for it and he was like me he didn't know what he had other than a one ounce silver coin. It took me looking online to figure out that it was low mintage. You have to remember the Intermountian West USA is a long way from New Zealand.
