I posted below in panda forum....

my local dealer offered me these 2 sets.
    1987 gold panda proof set (5 coins total 1.9 oz) w/ certification , but no box -----------> $ 2,850
1988 gold panda proof set (5 coins total 1.9 oz) no certification , no box --------------> $2,850
    spot price $1,300 & premium $200
I saw the actual things. All coins have "P" mark on it.
They both are in double sealed (plastic capsule + sealed plastic) & very very good condition.

    Should I take these items?
If I have to pick one, which one????
    Thanks for helping me out.

First of all, is this fair deal??????????? Should I take this ????????

Anyone can help me out my question?
I have to let my local dealer know.

    1. Is it worth paying spot + $200 for

1987 gold panda proof set (5 coins total 1.9 oz) w/ certification , but no box -----------> $ 2,850 if spot is 1300

1988 gold panda proof set (5 coins total 1.9 oz) no certification , no box --------------> $2,850 if spot is 1300

    2. If I have to choose one, which one????

Depends on condition, but it sounds like a fair deal to me.

    P is for Proof :)

However, 88 is more popular, right?

    88 is worth more, right?

Based on your replies, why do you think the 88 is worth more than the 87? If you have done your own market research, you could start making your own decisions based on that.

And would you be happier buying something just because it is worth more "on paper" than buying it cos you like the design?

    i got your point.

    However, it's very expensive coins.
I just can't ignore "investment factor"....

Yes, if 1988 is more worth than 1987, I will go for 1988.
But, some people are saying that the difference is not that much.
I am confused because 1988's mintage is almost twice as much than 1987. Plus, design is kind of boring. then why 1988 is more hard to find??????
    I just don't understand...

BTW, why so much premium for panda???????

Now I know that my first panda coin (2001 above) was a fantastic deal.

    Thanks very much.

Because demand for Pandas is greater than the supply of Pandas available. :)
