There's an article in the SMH about a 1kg silver coin being minted by the Art Grani foundry in Russua to mark the annexation of Crimea. Full article and photo: http://www.smh.com.au/world/putins-crimea-seizure-the-coin-20140423-zqy08.html
Definitely not a coin. Got some good pictures and a video up on the site. It's actually a well struck piece, but with what's going on in Eastern Ukraine at the moment, a little tactless. http://agaunews.com/?p=10796
Whenever they show silver medal and coin on TV I cheer as public becomes more aware of the metal I would buy the medal at 10% discount to the spot coz I don't like heavy medals
It looks much better than on the first link. This a tribute which will remind us for many years how international policy failed again and that everything is more or less just a bad joke. Nice girl in the video btw.
First one I have scene on Ebay...pick yours up for 15,000$ starting bid! http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...kw=russia+crimea+kilo+coin&_sacat=0&_from=R40
I don't think Russia will be too happy with the diplomat putting it on Ebay... $15,000 seriously? Is it really worth that? Maybe $5,000 would be understandable.
Shipping calculator tells me that seller wants for that kilo coin $100 domestic shipping (within the U.S.). I think that either that seller really doesn't want to sell that coin but rather just flaunt it or plans to list another in auction and using this first one as leverage to pump up the other one. Just a guess....I personally don't know why the price and shipping cost is so extreme. To be honest, I'd much rather spent far less money and get a far scarcer silver medal like this one (current mintage = nine, max mintage is 99) from a very trusted seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/China-2012-...690?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item233c9fa0ba .
Yes, me too and since I already own the brass version (not my auction but same medal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271539552085?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT ) the silver version sure would look terrific next to it! I wish I had a rich uncle who'd buy the silver medal for my next birthday. .
Guess more round for sympathizers of Putin's policy, rich people to have it for memorabilia. Who knows maybe they will need to make a new one soon consider their expansions in last few years. I would put one in UN just to keep so politicians and diplomats there will be remained how yet again they fail to stop another conflict... Sanctions usually serve better for those who should "suffer" most, and who usually suffer is normal people. In case of Cuba they just helped to keep regime longer on the "throne"....
