Just goes to show eBay isn't always the cheapest ! Compare with Apmex at $80 http://www.apmex.com/Product/9029/1990_1_oz_Silver_Australian_Kookaburra.aspx I have been watching this seller for several weeks. He regularly lists the 1990 Kook and the price has been steadily increasing. As he offers free shipping that has to be factored in the true cost. It looks however that $80+ is now the going rate for this 1990 bird.
I call BS a zero bidder that is no longer registered comes in and bids $90 then $100 - only bid on this item - nothing else 2 minutes later the winning bidder appears and puts in 4 quick bids, 2 above the zero bidder pretty blatant shill bidding
seller bidding on their own items using other accounts to artificially inflate the price http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/seller-shill-bidding.html
i had a guy called Proofmetal on ebay shill bid. I got so pissed off so i figured i would share with you guys here. he has tons of MMC's and a lot of stuff i want but i will not buy from him after that bs. so stay away from this guy. again his name is Proofmetal and he sells mmc's
Dummy bidding used to be necessary on ebay in part to keep their fees down. Say you thought your item was worth $100. To list it on ebay with a starting auction price of say $90 might cost $3. You might get zero bids and it doest sell, you still wear the $3 "insertion" fee. But if you started the item at say 99 cents, the insertion fee might have been like only 50 cents or something. So as you can see there was an incentive to list your item at 50 cents, shill bid it up to $90 in order to keep your ebay fees lower. At the moment on ebay (australian ebay anyway), there are no insertion fees so you can just start your item at $90 without needing to worry about shill bidding.
How about bidders testing the maximum bid of other bidders by placing a high bid then retracting it as "entered wrong amount " ? That way all the automatic bids get triggered and all bidders get to see the maximum bid. Have seen this happen several times and even had a seller block a bidder because there was some sort of scull-duggery happening.
