For now, just starting out, I want to get a little bit of everything. It's one thing with coins when you know exactly what you're looking for (like government minted coins, easy) but with bars it's just different brands. The main thing I see on eBay is Silvertowne, but I don't think I will buy bars off eBay. So what are some popular (reliable) brands to look out for?

Don't look to buy a particular brand. Look to buy from reputable dealers because you will buy a legit bar that way.

If you reside in the US I recommend jmbullion.com they have a good selection of bars, coins, rounds and even silver bullets. So you can look on there for what you want and they have a great rep.

You can get poured bars, minted bars and the stacker bars.

I like the idea of stacker bars, because they stack and you can pile them high in your safe, but I haven't got any because of the price.

I am not that fussed by the minted bars, I don't really need to know anything more than the manufacturer, weight and fineness.

I have gone for the Perth Mint poured offerings, except when I could get a 10oz lunar coin for a bit extra. They don't stack that well but I only have a couple so it really isn't an issue.

I have been wondering how you store your silver. Do you wrap it in some plastic material, or put it in airtight plastic boxes to protect them from the weather (e.g. air humidity)? If you do, then the whole point of stacker bars is lost, since you can't stack them as easily if you put them in airtight plastic?

How are Scottsdale 10oz Stackers doing? They usually seem popular.

The airtight cases for Stackers stack nicely.

If they are worth keeping pretty they will come in a capsule more likely than not.

I find the ziplock glad bags do a decent enough job of storing silver, makes them very slippy though so I just wait for food containers which are fairly sturdy to come on special offer and I get them. Takeaway containers are ok for coins etc. but they don't stack many high once they start getting heavy.

    Thanks.

What I meant is Scottsdale King Stacker. They are more expensive because they stack nicely. But then, is it better to put them plastic containers? I know you can buy plastic containers that stack nicely, but is it worth paying more for Scottsdale King Stacker if you put them in plastic containers? Is it not better to buy Perth bars, and put them in these containers? Perth bars are cheaper, so why pay more for stackable bars, if you put them in containers anyway?

    So, that's what I meant :)

All down to personal preference really. I bought a heap of 10oz Stackers and thought the $1 cases were a waste of money but now I'm kicking myself as a lot of them have tarnished :/

King Stacjers are a different beast and bit aware of anyone that stacks them. If you're spending that much on pretty silver you might aswell spend those few extra $'s.

Thanks for the recs. I don't live in Australia so I don't think I would be supporting my local market by buying from there lol. When you say local I don't know how local you mean, because the only thing really local for me is pawn shops. I live in Northwest Arkansas btw.

Ohio Precious Metals (OPM) is low premium. That's just a couple states north east.

I have various brands of 10oz bars but ever since The Royal Canadian Mint started issuing 10oz bars, they're the only ones I buy. Available at JMBULLION at a decent price
