According to the article I read (http://www.cnbc.com/id/47990434) A few more across the web have it down at the same weight. If you've seen the video of when the foundry workers pull it fresh from the mold it has no ribbing around the edge yet, and later in the same video it shows this ribbing being applied. I would imagine the coin would of lost the weight of a small stack with each rib. I think the designers made it a little over weight so as to make sure they cracked the tonne mark by the time it was finished. Apparently it smashed the last title holder by 912KG. I'm not too keen on the 'circulated' look of it. I think I'll wait till they come out with a proof edition. Mr.G

Yes it is in a temporary position just outside the gold pour, but will be moved centre stage once exhibition renovations are completed.
