So who is sitting comfortably on a stack of $10 silver coins knowing that if it ever did get really bad then their stash has the legal tender back up? I sold mine but i don't anticipate that silver will go that low. Are there other (silver) coins with greater legal tender status? I don't know of any in Australia. I have some $15 coins but those are Al/bronze not silver. Of course gold is higher but we would be in serious trouble if we were relying on their legal tender status to save us.
I have some olympic coins, I think they have a face value of $10 but I am too lazy to check. Let's hope it doesn't come to that Source: http://www.australianstamp.com/coin-web/aust/tendolla/1994310d.htm Current value is about $14 in silver
Around the year 2000 when the spot price of silver was in the $4 to 4 range, the coin dealer here in Bundaberg has told me that collectors that had bought the $10 coins from the RAM at prices u/c $20 plus and proof in excess of $30 were taking them to the bank to get $10 instead of the going spot price of $6. Hell, if that happened to me, I'd just chuck them in the bottom of the draw and forget about them. Of course, feeding hungry kids might not allow for that.
Sure! Pick-up the Queeny coins! $25 face value! http://www.australianstamp.com/Coin-web/aust/twenty5/1992125d.htm The Queeny set is just about to rocket in price! Check-out the whole set, they have great face value and...great silver content. H
