I keep hearing that the 1 oz Ox is rare? is this true? and why? i picked up 4 at $60 ea in august.. what are they worth.
They are no more rare than any of the other S2 lunars. At the moment, there are not many for sale. The sales prices on SS have been higher than US ebay ($50s lately). Summer of 2010, Apmex had them at $2.99 or $3.99 over spot. Dragon mania may have raised the interest and prices of all S2 lunars. Right now, you could probably sell them in AU for a nice profit of $20-30. Use the search function to check recent SS sales of S2 Ox coins.
Just chatting to a coin shop owner in Melbourne, his SII Ox ran out the door at $100 each. Only had gilded ones left.
If that 'coin shop owner is 'peterstritch' ? they ran out ages ago... (I think I contacted them a month or something ago....) I rekn the going price is $85 and above If you manage to find a source to import them.. they can be had for $62-$66 + Postage to AUSTRALIA = Approx $74-$75 per piece. (Not taking into account custom fees and whatnot) most places have no stock though... ebay USA HAD some for $50~ , but the sellers don;t want to ship to Australia. Note: the above is my based on my research/note taking on the 1oz silver ox for the last 2-3 months.
Fairly sure some of these traded hands at the Brisbane Meet for $85~ It seems there's a large percentage of Ox in Europe (Germany specifically) and the USA. So as the supply as dried up in Australia, we apply simple supply/demand models and voila!
I got the proof and gilded ox for $60 each at IS Wright in Melbourne around May. Have broken boxes with no certificates, but still a reasonable price, less than the bullion type by the looks of it!!!!
