As you dont need docs for a under 5K purchase I assume that 1oz Gold bars are quite in demand? What brands do SS buy here?
Pamp seems popular: http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-30106-for-salepamp-gold1-oz-onlylady-fortuna-design.html Even Perth Mint, and someone was saying that minted is cheaper to get than poured. But most people that buy 1oz bars seem to say "gold is gold, whatever is cheapest" Personally i prefer fractional coins as it is easier to determine purity, for the layperson anyway. Authenticity/counterfeits could potentially be a problem but that's another story.
Pamp are really in their own league. I would go for Perth mint second and the rest after that i guess.
yea more some reason minted does seem to be cheaper, but as for bars i like the PAMP Dragons, veeery nice
The reason given (I think Bron mentioned it) was that minted bars come from rounds - which they can either make or buy in large numbers, and are fairly easy to process. However poured bars require shot to be measured, then the gold to be melted, then poured. It didn't make sense to me until it was explained
Every refiner makes they're own W.Davis sell AGB ,there's Ainslie ,don't know if they still make them . AC&B used to make they're own Lot's of others out there ,just can't remember
There is also the 50g size available in both PAMP and Perth Mint, cast and minted. According to the price list I am looking at the PAMP cast bar is $AUD 2,630, which is $46 cheaper than the minted, but their buyback price is the same.
Thanks for the tips guys. Two questions? 1)Why does Gold seem to be better value relative to its spot price compared to silver? That is, Silver bar premiums are higher precentage wise relative to spot than Gold. 2)Considering this relative advantage is it better to stack the smaller Gold Bars?
Rather than think in %'s, think in minimum fabrication costs. Then add that cost to spot. It's not accurate, as I believe Perth Mint adds a % to gold for fabrication, and a more fixed amount to silver (our vice versa), but it illustrates the point. Stack whichever PM suits your needs. I'd everyone has to pay fabrication costs, you'll usually get them back anyway. Personally I would stack the size if bar that makes most sense to your needs and cashflow, etc. You don't want to be stuck trying to sell a 10oz bar when you only need 1oz worth of cash/goods.
