Hello! I am a longtime lurker........ I have been stacking silver all summer. I just reached my 100th ounce. I want to at least get SOME gold before the price climbs any higher. All I can afford right now is a 1/4 oz......I was thinking about an Eagle, but I know it is not 24kt..... do you recommend an Eagle or a Krug, or is there a better gold coin in that size? Thanks for any advice! ~Sarah
Get the Australia Nugget Kangaroo, Canada Maple Leaf or the Austria Philharmonic - they are all 24K or .9999 pure gold.
Here some information about them see link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Gold_Eagle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krugerrand
I'd go Eagle as you're in the US and they'll always be in more demand than the Krug. Although in saying that the Krug is still a pretty good choice as it may be slightly cheaper and just as recognizable. Seeing as its only for the one 1/4oz, I'd go for the one whose design you prefer.
+1 to this. When I started stacking, both gold and silver, I wasn't as aware as I am now of some of the "thinking" behind stacking, and I probably wasn't so clear on my reasons to start stacking in the first place. Without going into a massive post, I think stacking something that is local is the best way to go, as it gives you the best possible opportunity to trade/sell that item in the future in your local area simply based on recognition of the item in question. Just to be clear - I'm talking here only about bullion coins, numismatics are "off the table" with this line of thinking
Maybe a numismatic 1/4oz is the preferable route when buying single coins. I can certainly see the point of Eagles if you buying multiples to stack, but I'd look at track records and get a 1/4 that has some potential for rises above spot.
Well, if u could I would say maple. Hey that's just me, don't hate the player hate the game.......but honestly ive been hunting a 1/4 krug my self. love that coin. 100% krug, but that's just me
