This is very disappointing news. I am sad for you monopolize, and anyone else that may have been scammed this way. I almost bet I have some fake stuff in my collection, too. I know OTIS well enough to doubt that he would knowingly pull such a stunt. The broader question is ... how much fake stuff is really out there? I suspect plenty. Sad day for silver stackers, and not a great day for stacking in general.
Since the fake coin has the same weight and less metal density I'd think the dimensions would be a bit bigger compared to the real .999 Ag coin.
bullion in proof finished. it is just too shinny mirror. proof finish will cost more. it can be worse if it was priced as proof coins.
This is why I hate those Chinese fakes so much. I saw a Facebook group where someone was selling fake coins from alibaba and a I called him out and he told me that he was stating they were plated so what was the problem. I tried to explain that they then get passed along without that little bit of advice is the problem. Very disappointing.
Quite hard if you have a good fake. I got a 1oz Lunar Horse and it weighed exactly what the real did. From memory, everything was perfect except it was missing the legal tender amount. No idea where it was made or what it consists but pretty impressive job IMO.
Well now that we have determined that they were indeed fakes, should report it to the police if he doesn't reply with a justifiable explanation. The last thing we want is to allow for such fakes to be traded on this forum to unknowing buyers!
I'm pretty sure the cops will attach a low priority to such a case, as it wasn't legal tender involved.
I agree, police will take the path of least resistance and they would see this as a civil issue not criminal You can't event lodge a complaint with the administrative decisions tribunal in your state as they only deal with businesses Your best option if it's worth the dollars is to speak to a lawyer and ask them to write a letter of demand to OTIS Looking at OTIS's account he seems to be a long standing member but wasn't really involved in the forums as some of you here are Hard to say if there was any intent to scam Having said that he may have been done the same way and decided to use the best option to off load the fakes. The trade forums are a good option unlike ebay/paypal there is no buyer protection here just rep Sucks to get ripped off like that
Cops only do what they have do do. It's about time rationing. There's motorists out there driving with a pet on their laps. They must be stopped and fined $250! Constabulary time allotted 20 mins x 2. Few more of those then back to the station for smoko with crime enforcement quota filled for the morning. Time to respond to break-in in progress at neighbours ~2 hours.
I know a number of local youths who now refuse to display red 'P' plates as it seems to have the same effect locally as painting a bullseye on your arse. The alternative view: a speed camera was moved after a petition by locals that it was getting too many of them repeatedly, some several times in the same week! WTF! Maybe cops are like politicians - we get the ones we deserve.
Hi Monopolise Any further feedback regarding this matter? Have any other members checked to confirm their purchases are legitimate? cheer$
Had a look in my bag of fake rounds (I don't keep the Legal Tender fakes I come across) I found one of these buffalos. I guess the lesson here is only buy XAG Buffalos. But then I would say that.
I checked on apmex Diameter 39.04 thickness 2.9mm http://mobile.apmex.com/product/44447/1-oz-Silver-Round-Buffalo Btw...I noticed on the fake round, the buffalo side is different from the ones on Apmex and others too.
There are several varieties of real Buffalo rounds - i.e. they are generic rounds made by different mints, using the buffalo / Indian head design, e.g. http://www.apmex.com/product/44447/1-oz-silver-round-buffalo http://www.apmex.com/product/85235/1-oz-silver-round-buffalo-v2 http://www.jmbullion.com/2015-1-oz-silvertowne-buffalo-round/ http://www.providentmetals.com/1-oz-buffalo-silver-round.html
