I believe aware people of the world seek out organic food now, and or prefer the more personalized way of shopping direct from the producer like at farmers markets.

Our family much prefers the personalised shopping experience of farmers markets over the Super-Monopolies.

I sincerely hope you are not correct in your prediction. Making such a demand would come from the false belief of increased crop yields using GM.

I fully expect to see an ear of wheat contain 100 grains some time in the not too distant future. And also the possibility of a reduced growing cycle, maybe even 2 crops a year, and the need for far less water than now.

I also expect to 'see' (from my high position) north of 10 BILLION people on this planet in 2050.

    PS,

I also expect that 10 billion to continue growing towards 15+ BILLION by the year 2100!

You have a lot of faith in the press and rhetoric with regard to the virtues of GM food that I do not share.

A fact to consider, organic food is already "genetically modified", by a process of mankind selectively planting the best seeds based on seeking incremental improvements for over 10 thousand years of human experience that, has yielded the incredible richness and variety that we all benefit from today. This process has produced both hardy and delicious produce that is interrelated to our good health and vitality. We have evolved with the plants; there is an intrinsic biological link.

I believe that GM food is largely driven not for the good of mankind but for the good of the corporation and its interests. There will be serious consequences, it is a given, on the limitations of our understanding and warped profit incentives.

Genetically engineering isn't necessarily evil. I think growing uniform crops (no genetic diversity), making sure the seeds are sterile and can't be resown and suing people whose crops are inadvertently polluted with your tailored genes is.

Also, genetically engineering our food is dangerous. We should engineer ourselves instead to require less food.

GM products will only speed up top soil erosion. GM is not a solution and neither is organics. We need to get off chemical driven mono culture farming and start practicing permaculture on an industrial scale and locally. Turn our farmland's 200 year life span to an indefinite one. The food cartels have way to much control over the population and people are oblivious to it.

by 2050 GM crops will no long be resistant to viruses and bugs. (They are already struggling to keep up with nature) Also GM won't make the soil any better or create rain. Plus after that much tampering all the food will taste like crap.

All GM is doing is making people more reliant on an unsustainable system, so when the tipping point comes it will be all the worse.

Genetically engineering (it has been around since 1973) vs Genetically selected (has been around thousands of years)

Why do companies via government regulation label food 'GM' if there is no difference to traditional food products?. Genetically Modified in the context of food products refers to genetically engineered foods.

    From wikipedia:
Human directed genetic modification has been occurring since first domesticating organisms in 12 000 BC. Genetic engineering as the direct transfer of DNA from one organism to another was first accomplished by Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen in 1973. Advances have allowed scientists to manipulate and add genes to a variety of different organism and to induce a range of different effects. Since 1976 the technology has been commercialised, with companies producing and selling genetically modified food and medicine.

    From wikipedia:
Malaysia, New Zealand, and Australia require labeling so consumers can exercise choice between foods that have genetically modified, conventional or organic origins.[48]

The point that they are making is that there is no scientific research to show that GM proteins are safe in the human body. There is no industry regulation and the only "research" is by the people selling the product.

So we don't have a scientific link yet?

Edit to add: we've been through this debate before and you guys (anti-GM) still can't find any evidence.
