Didn't see this posted on the forum, I was surprised to see them copying the silver bullet silver shield rounds. Yet another reason not to by them off ebay. I wouldn't mind picking up a few to make key chains out of them or use them for display. http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search...tId=&SearchText="silver+bullet+silver+shield"
Interestingly Ali makes no secret about the metal used in this and other available items. I'd be keen to get one to have a good look at its appearance. I wonder if they are silver dipped?
what you see in the photo is NOT what you get They are mostly chrome plated & way to shiny DO NOT support this crap
No not supporting it no way. Just be curious to see a knock off. I'm a guitar player. Been playing for donkeys. You should see some of the guitar "replicas"! Indistinguishable in many cases. Hope all's good spanner.
Surfer, how about using the genuine items for your keychains? They would be worth more, no? If I was a jeweler and making a ring with a rock in it, I wouldn't get a rock from my driveway, I would get the most expensive rock I could afford.
If there is a market for it they will make it, don't support it. How about I get some "replica" $20 bills made then sell them for $5 you don't have to. Be a genius to work out what they will be used for......
Yeah, I posted this then had to go to work. I should have been more clear on my opinion of the fakes, clads, replicas etc.. I think it's a bunch of BS especially if they are not clearly marked and advertised as a replica and/or trying to be passed off as real. I agree, I do not want to support them even if they were $1 shipped! Still... I am curious to see what they look like compared to the real thing. I do typically buy copper rounds that match my silver so I'm not afraid to handle or display them. As far as making a key chain out of the real thing, I actually did with a SBSS copper round. I ended up giving it to a friend that liked it. So the copper I keep out to enjoy, the silver stays locked away in my safe until I feel the need to take them out to view, glaring wide eyed while I laugh maniacally at the HUNDREDS of dollars of silver rounds I own, MUUUHAHAHAHA!
Often these items are advertised without existing - they will place an ad and wait for someone to order before they go ahead and create the replicas. Seriously though, there must be just a few places making this stuff. Why the hell they won't shut them down is beyond me, apart from a general disrespect of any concept of intellectual property. I've alerted Chris Duane and the current authorised mint about the existence of these copies.
I've seen knockoff/copies in every industry I've worked in From the rag trade when I was a kid To cheap Taiwanese car parts , bumper bars that don't fit & cost you more time than the $20-$30 you saved A friend of mine Jim.V used to test pro audio equipment for Chinese manufactures , he once showed me a knock of "SHURE BETA 58 $1 landed , it looked spot on even the box & case except when you picked it up , it had no weight in it Yes I know about the knock of guitars I was in crimeconverts with an old guitar tech & he told me all about them good luck trying to tune one    I just hate knock offs in any form The ONLY thing that I would own that would be a replica is a Porsche 550 Spider Anything else : WANT THE REAL THING "
While we are on the subject of SBSS fakes, did they really release Silver proof coins with CU instead of AG on them? Are these fakes, an example of poor quality control or perhaps an attempt at clever marketing buzz for the re-sale/collector market? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBSS-Silver...pt=US_Bullion_Bars_Rounds&hash=item3a855b8435
The biggest problem would be high quality reproductions encapsulated in high quality NGC / PCGS slabs. For all we know, it's already being done. .
About 3-4 years ago, a client of mine was in a pawn shop that wasn't then, but is now on tv. Knowing I purchased gold, she told me about some 1893-o eagle gold coins. The pawn shop owner had 5 of them, all in slabs with no identification on the slabs. I told her they were likely fakes and she relayed that to owner. She said his eyes got real big. Then he stated that he got them from a gambler, so I must have been wrong. While the coins were minted in Louisiana and the dealer was located in Louisiana, there were only 17,000 of these coins produced and I highly doubt that one person had 5 of them and had slabbed them without using a grading service. Only way I would have purchased coins like that is after removing them from the slabs and having them tested. Edit, About 3 years ago, Intelligencer went through the process of buying a slabbed gold Panda from a trusted local dealer. Something didn't seem right to him, so he opened the slab and the Panda was fake. I had recently bought a then current year 2010 gold Panda and was seriously stressed about confirming it was real. The original thread by intelligencer seems to have disappeared, but here is a conversation regarding it. See post #10. http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-4731-silver-panda-2011-oh-and-golden-too.html
Cajun Pawn Stars? That show sucks. I love the original pawn stars but that version is literally unwatchable.
Based upon the telephone conversation, I wouldn't leave a dollar on the table around that guy and expect it to be around when I came back. What I was told, is that he is related to the original pawn stars guy and that his head has gotten even bigger since the show started. I was also told something about a sign & the royal purple color being used, but I cannot remember the details. Apparently, he doesn't believe that his excrement has a maliforous odor.
@ dccpa, are the slabs you mentioned in your last post from any of the major TPG companies or simply home slabbed with a BCW (or similar) slab? The difficulty, I believe, in creating a good replica slab is in the security label...the slab itself can always be produced to look authentic. The security label is the much more difficult thing to counterfeit I believe. .
