Just wondering have any of you seen any evidence of bitcoin use, either individual or business in the real world?

I personally own a retail business and out of interest I have asked about 20 or 30 customers today, just in general conversation, if they have ever heard of something called bitcoin. None had even heard of it let alone looked into it or anything like that. As far as I am aware there are no businesses based in mighty RADelaide that will accept bitcoin either.

Wondering other peoples experiences in this regard, or is it like silver which is taken out into the middle of the ocean on a small boat, sunk and never mentioned again?

I don't really count online as the real world. I mean more bricks and mortar businesses. I'd love to be able to go into a coffee shop and scan my phone and get a coffee in return.

Although at this point I'd would rather part with my nickel and copper coins than my bity ones.

Bought silver from a few people for bitcoins in private transactions (including one done at the Gold Symposium phone to phone), but have not transacted with a business yet.

Be nice if someone could compile a list of all the useful places that accept bitcoin online or in a physical store.

Because atm I just hear people say then know someone that know someone that accept it or you can use it to pay for some internet service that 99.9% of people would never use.

A better user interface and easier way to convert currency would be nice to see. PayPal is a good example of how fast people adopt to something if its made easy to use.

Why on earth would you want to use your crypto-currencies to buy stuff?

I could understand someone using their crypto stash to buy RE or gold or silver or even spending their profits on a car or a holiday, but on every day goods that are easily purchased with fiat and are not going to change in price much over the next days or months you gotta be mad.

There's all sorts of reasons from feeling bearish to not having any fiat at hand. Some people have made pretty good profits by now too, I'd imagine, and would have no problem spending a few. Heck, maybe they don't even have a fiat income, lol.

I'm not an expert, but confirmation times might make this a challenge. Maybe if you can order online, and pickup your coffee 20 mins later?

Litecoin is a bit better in this regard (say, 10 mins).

Can someone testify how long it takes for bitcoins to show up in your wallet these days? Is it really 20mins??

That's interesting, so they are basically wearing the (very small) risk of a double spend attack?

I can understand profiting (and yes, that they may be bearish - skittish would be a more appropriate term I would imagine), but using them to pay for beer, subway and coffee is just fkn stupid.

And also, as if that old bald headed bastard would be using BTC to buy a pint.

Bitcoin is perhaps more widely accepted already by varied businesses than 999 silver and gold bullion coins and bars!.
Bankers don't get a cut of the transaction...so bankers have a reason to be peeved off.
Physical silver and gold does not exist when it comes to near instantaneous transactions longer than ones arm. Bitcoins do.

What did the guy in the pub buying beer do to you shiney?

    You obviously don't understand.

I'll try and make it clearer. BTC is obviously a speculative investment - it is not a currency of exchange. Sure, some view it as a currency of exchange, but they are dumb fks. Far better to use fiat to exchange for frippery than BTC or gold or even silver (though I don't care much for my silver and am willing to exchange it for frippery, after I profit of course).

The potential to make a lot of money has either been reached or is yet to be reached. Why on earth would you trade something that has that potential for earning huge profits on something 2 hours later you will either piss against a wall or bring up?
