    Hi SS
I don't know how many of you remember very popular coin program: Treasures of Australia Series 2007-2011
Here are photos of 5 coins of this series:
[IMG] released in 2007 and contains approximately 1 carat of sapphires.
[IMG] released in 2008 and contains approximately 1 carat of white opals.
[IMG] released in 2009 and contains approximately 1 carat of natural diamonds.
[IMG] released in 2010 and contains approximately 0.50g of gold.
[IMG] released in 2011, containing a natural Australian keshi pearl framed in mother of pearl.

It seems that Perth Mint will start very similar coin program" Treasures of the World" with its first coin in the series: Europe 2013 Silver Proof Locket Coin with Garnet.
I expect this series will have seven coins that will be released in next 3.5-7 years period. Of course this is my guess.
All I know is that it will be Proof Locket Coin with Garnet.

I adore the design on the 2010 gold release. Wish I was into collecting back then. Would have jumped at the opportunity to grab some of them.

Just to throw some wild speculation in this thread as Garnet is the birth stone for January perhaps this may be a 12 coin Bithstone series.
It seams unusual for a series to start with Garnet for any other reason.
    Just a thought.

I tried to read your post, but my eyes ran to the left. This bunny/hamster jumps one time to the right, two times to the left. Amazing avatar. I started counting his jumps and I woke up the next morning.

Nothing in the links specificly says that this release is 'treasures from the world. Rather the site announces new coin treasures from the world. No diffinitive application to one series title.
Can you tell me what country is famous for thier Garntets and why this would be the lead relaese.
Nap I'm telling you it's a birth stone series.
Thats the only reason anyone would lead a release with Garnte, go to your local jewlery retailer and see how 'pretty' and popular this stone is.
Tell me what nation spings to mind when I say Garnet.
This is not a stone thats affiniated with a particualr country, and an odd choice to try to kick off a series.
This one has to be a 12 coin birth stone series or its gonna be a massive flop because the stones won't resonate with any particular country.
Book mark this thread and we'll look back and see.

Ok got the link but WTF?

What country are they claiming as being famous for Garnets, or have they just selected the whole of Europe (or the world) even thouh Africa and South America produce the stones as well.
And why start with Garnets if they are not trying to do a tie in with birthstones?
If thats what they are doing with no link to anything that people will find an affinatiy with then good luck.
Garnets are a love em or hate em stone and thoes who love em are born in January.
Bet the next one is Amethyst. ;)

(Edit my bad reading of OP)

Not to mention we don't know what colour the garnet will be, it will be raw and could be a mix

I think amethyst would be nice + its me

If this is a sequel to the "Treasures of Australia" series, which came out 1 coin per year, I doubt it'll be following birthstones. Can't see a 12 year gemstone series really holding the enthusiasm :D

The treasures of Australia were all precious gemstones/metals, whereas perhaps this one will be semi-precious if the garnet is anything to go by. I reckon they'll go with the red garnet, as it's the classic colour.

The information I've read is that major deposits of garnets were found in Europe and in particular in the region formerly known as Czechoslovakia.

I am guessing there is going to be seven coins in this series... how I came out with this number?
The name of this coin program tells you everything" Treasures of the World".First coin in the series: Europe 2013 Silver Proof Locket Coin with Garnet.
Europe is a continent, one of seven on Earth.

    1.Europe,
    2. Asia,
    3. Africa,
    4. North America,
    5. South America,
    6. Antarctica,
    7. Australia.

What do you think about that?

I reckon that's a good idea. Lapis Lazuli could be the Asian one, if not too expensive to obtain.

Me thinks the price willbe about 85 AUD.

Ive read on here of people wondering why this coin has Garnet as the stone for Europe, seems like the Czech Republic is a huge market for these with garnets being mined there for centuries
