I thought I would post up some of my experiences settings here to see if we can all squeeze a couple of extra mh/s out of mining rigs Currently I'm mining 1/3 BTC and 2/3 LTC LTC settings Gigabyte 7950 --intensity 13 --shaders 1792 --worksize 256 -g 1 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-fan 25-80 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1350 ~345KH/s Gigabyte 7770 --intensity 11 --shaders 640 --worksize 256 -g 1 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-fan 25-80 --gpu-engine 1150 --gpu-memclock 1125 ~ 145KH/s I run a small 100Mhz overclock on mem and gpu when mining LTC Okay for mining bitcoins and litecoins consider downloading guiminer and or cgminer and connecting to the pool http://ozco.in but this thread will mainly be about how to setup your rig for maximum potential.. I'll update this post later periodically with more details Thoughts on clocking: I run a small 100Mhz overclock on mem and gpu when mining LTC Mining BTC I just give CGminer a temp target and let it change the clock The cards I'm using don't seem to like the GPU and mem being out of step by more than 150Mhz so it's easier to hard set it for LTC Thoughts on cooling: I've experimented with putting a hot card on the outside and a smaller cooler card on the inside (hence the 7770 and 7950) it seems to be working well so far. it's not the highest hash rate but it has a simple elegance. So far the gigabyte cards seem to have much better cooling than the MSI cards. Might be worth spending that extra couple of bucks to get a nice copper heatsink if you're going to be running this thing 24/7?
How exactly can you mine bitcoins from your home computer? Do you need to download a program or something?

It's a simple way to get a toe in the water, and you can progress from there by doing some reading/research at www.bitcointalk.org - or ask away here Yes, normally, you would download a mining client (see original post, or investigate Phoenix which is yet another client).
Is it worth it here with electricity prices so high? It probably is at the moment with bitcoin so high, but what would the breakeven point be? And as for specialised rigs, do you guys build your own or is there somewhere you could get one built in Aus? I read that if you use a normal computer it won't be much good because mining uses a graphics card rather than the CPU to do its work. Laptops wouldn't be much use in that case I guess. Anyone fancy building me one?
I have some pretty good hardware, more just concerned about power and bandwidth usage.. is much bandwidth required?
Based on the changes in the exchange rates I've gone back to mining 100% bitcoin Finally finished the mining rig today, Currently comprised of 3 x 7770 2 x 7870 and 1 x 7950 I've stop messing around with overclock and just set the cards to run at normal clock and downclock if they get too hot. I thought the idea of putting a cooler card in the more air constrained slot might mitigate some cooling problems but it doesn't seem to work to well. you definitely need a fan on top pushing air into that gap. I'm hesitant to put the shorter card on the front because i think the larger card would just suck in its hot air. Currently the rig is drawing 904w at 98 PFC I'm getting the following hashrates: msi 7870 - 375 msi 7770 - 195 gb 7770 - 185 gb 7950 - 530 clearly all graphics cards are not equal. Currently running at 1.8GH/s materials cost is probably about 1500 lets see if I can make my money back =)
Wondering, is it normal practice for BTC miners to measure the electrical power consumption of their rigs? How many BTC/LTCs does a rig have to generate per hour to pay for electrical power consumption alone?
Been looking ay payout methods on ozco.in and i'm still very unsure of which is the best method. Anyone have any comments on which method is best? DGM POT PPS ?
Did some reading the other night - it seems that anything other than a custom made BTC mining machine is a waste of time now. Are high powered gaming/graphics work machines worth running or just a waste of time?
There's still profitability there. It's just that purchasing new hardware to do mining you're running a greater risk of having a long time to pay back the hardware. At the moment, mining will pay for its electricity costs and a little more.
