Not too sure how these can't be reminted as Tim states though - considering that's now three dealers with stock in (BB/OzBullion/Gainsville).

Perth mint repurchased a large number of 92 kooks from a customer and selling them now instead of melting them.

The market will be flooded for a while - but that shouldn't hurt the value as much as reminting!

Sure.. but your paying around $50 more for them..

    IE:

    1982 Libertads x 20- $706 ($48 cheaper) about $2.50 cheaper per coin
2011 Koalas x20 - $693 ($62 cheaper) about $3 cheaper per coin (damn just went out of stock!)

All things considered ill buy the koalas or libertads over the reminted (im not buying the PM spin now 4 dealers have stock -- must of been one massive unearthing and re-capsuling (my skepticism serves me well))

Projack says that these aren't restrikes rather someone sold them back to the Perth Mint.

Hi, yes my reply factored in what projack said.. hence the "im not buying the PM spin now 4 dealers have stock -- must of been one massive unearthing and re-capsuling (my skepticism serves me well)...

In other words - i highly doubt one dealer sold them back to PM after 30 years and the PM has changed the capsules over to the round type and distributed them to USA and several Aussie dealers.. but hey your entitled to believe what you want, ill just go with common sense and say the PM reminted these up to 300,000 K at some stage and have decided now to make them available (My theory is they didnt want any more back-lashes for screwing over dedicated collectors/investors so they have done it under the cover of dark.. but yeah it might have been one shop returning it 30 years on..

Guys, these are restrikes. Most likely shipping in round capsules.

    Goldpelican and others,

so that will make them more valuable, because they are in the newer capsule and more airtight? Or because they are the later strikes will be of poorer strike quality?

Id be interested to know if they cranked out the old die or if this new lot were done with a newly fashioned die? Is restrike the right word, id say reminted or beta mint run?

The only true negatives are the short term price decrease for those already holding the 92 kooks (like me) which id est have lost a few bucks in a week, secondly the face PM and PM stockists have lost not even knowing about what they are selling and them being available to the public open to speculation before we can even ascertian the truth.

The positive is more long term and gives the old skool kookaburras some time in the limelight.. IMO this is nothing but good news for the kook series, a further negative will be if this is a sign the PM intends on revisiting all the earlier dates and maxing them out.. i have serious issues with this but i do see the current PM business model as a "milk every last cent they can" rather than a keep the customer happy and dont Sheet where you eat.

ATM the only thing that can stop PM is the PM who are trying there best to sabotage there own operation shooting themselves in the foot seemingly with each decision choosing short term profits over a viable and appreciating investment sector... all they have is there credibility and there perceived scarcity with quality... if they diminish there scarcity and credibility they will continue to lose market share.

Definitely freshly minted - not sure on the dies being the originals or new.

Gainesville also has them for US36.51...

    The plot thins...

(I go with 1for1 - there are also great deals on Libs & Koalas etc if you care to look around - but I like the look of this kook)

Yeah, pretty much why I did too.
Should have just waited 48 hours to have seen other dealers with their stock in to know something was up.
BB is good for getting in older stuff - which is why I thought it was worth while!
