Good wprk GP. I'm hanging on the result of Cruikshank's specific gravity result. Personally, I wouldn't touch this thing. Even if it was $5, no one on here is sure and would not be liquid enough for my liking... when you have a debate over something like this, it's a dead giveaway that it is going to cause problems in the future. Also, I would have labelled the auction as a bottle opener. For what it is at, I think you got a lot more for the item than I would have expected. ..awaiting the specific gravity test results. Welcome to the forum
Hi, to me the anomoly is the "999" and "996" but as it dosent say Fine Silver or AU or Silber or anything im guessing its 999 fine brass/tungsten.. and its plated in silver/gold (its not gonna matter if its G/S EP cos the cost is minimal). I got caught out in a similar scheme with those 100 mills items which were .999 copper coated in 100 mills silver * but technically they are 999? Its very disingenious and purposely ambiguious to pass off a 999 copper/tungten bar as silver.. but without the AU/Silver after the 999 its the end users assumption that the colour of the bar must mean its 999 silver and not simply a base metal. Im happy with the bullionbourse bargains.. no need to chase high risk "lemon" oppertunities 1for1
You'll see a blizzard in Perth before you see any SG tests from that seller. I suspect we've seen the last of cruiksta anyway after my last question remained unanswered.
I don't think he's disappeared.. But I think there is a situation of "I kinda knew it seemed dodgy but the tests came out ok so I'm going to play dumb". Iv tested plenty of items that were plated with scratch tests and they can look like silver or gold. From my experience, the acid tests are not particularly useful unless you know what to look for. Anyway..someone will be happy with their $200 bottle opener...
I'd say the answer to that is obvious. like me or you he would like to get as good a price as he can. After all it is (fee bay). Go for it I say.
Deception = bad karma. I wouldn't do it. If he is that strapped for cash, I'm sure his family could lend him some money. Again, he could well be completely oblivious, but after this extensive discussion, I would be very reluctant to sell it anymore. No longer can he plead ignorance.
My parents wrapped me in one at birth, kept it up throughout my childhood and now I sew up any holes myself...and you?
Never fear if you missed out on this auction. I have a gold bar for sale to. I acid tested this bar and it didn't not react. feels heavy. Is marked 9999 Fine Gold ... net weight...1000 Gr 1000 gr gold is currently worth about $57,000 I found this bar in an old dusty attic. It has some sort of wire on it so it can be tied up so you cant lose it. Make offer above half current value and I will have it off in the post within a week.
Hi cruicksta1, I believe you've done the right thing cancelling the auction, especially considering the price it got to. nice work. repost it with a more accurate description and stating it's a base metal with plating and go from there - some one still may want to pay a heap for it coz it's an old, odd bottle opener
