G'day Stackers, any idea of premium & numbers for the 88 World Expo PM 1/2 left facing round ingot in display case? The back reads, "THE PERTH MINT" 1/2 oz FINE THE PERTH MINT AT THE WORLD EXPO 88
996 is a curious fineness. I was not aware that Perth Mint produced other degrees of gold fineness. Does anyone know why this might be? How does it work? Do they pour off a portion of the gold at 996, before they go on to refine the remainder to 99.99?
Thanks for this. A real piece of history then, making these 996 bars all the more desirable. And those pre-1927 bars even more so - they must be very rare indeed.
It doesn't surprise me that you have one of these, as you seem to be the new protege to Aurora et luna. I remember when he was an active dealer (in the old days) - he always had the premier collection of items, and it was a wonder to see all the incredible pictures (far from the norm). Cheers. But... where is your pre-1927 bar? Still on the hunt I suspect.
Rare as hen's teeth! Only managed to track down 3 examples in over 12 years Wish I could have kept all of them!
