“If you boycott Xinjiang cotton, we’ll boycott you. Either Adidas quits BCI, or get out of China,” one internet user wrote. Nike, Adidas and the BCI did not respond to requests for comment. https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/w...-hm-tumble-after-boycott-begins-over-xinjiang H&M said on Wednesday it respected Chinese consumers and that it was committed to long-term investment and development in China. But by Thursday morning, H&M did not exist on some Chinese store locator maps. Searches for H&M stores on Baidu Maps yielded no results. The retailer’s official store on Alibaba’s Tmall, an e-commerce platform, was inaccessible. At a daily media briefing at China’s foreign ministry, spokeswoman Hua Chunying, when asked about H&M, held up a photograph of Black Americans picking cotton. “This was in the U.S. when Black slaves were forced to pick cotton in the fields,” she said. Japanese retailer Muji, owned by Ryohin Keikaku, told the Global Times that it uses Xinjiang cotton, winning praise from Chinese internet users, who lauded the firm’s “survival instincts”. As it emerged that China is serious in following through on its threats of boycotting western clothing makers, shares of China's Anta Sports Products and Li Ning surged, while shares in Adidas, Inditex and H&M fell when European markets opened on Thursday: Burberry shares fell as much as 6.3%, Adidas was down as much as 6%, Inditex slipped as much as 1.9%; Nike was down 4% in premarket trading. https://qr.ae/pG7upF Nike announced that it does not source products from the XUAR and have confirmed with their contract suppliers that they are not using textiles or spun yarn from the region. Will this cause them to lose the Chinese market? No matter how internationally renowned a brand you are, you insult the Chinese people's country and you want to keep making money from them? Wishful thinking!
I know. Just like many people don't differentiate between Chinese-Vietnamese-Laotian-Korean-Japanese... China doesn't know much about Europe either. Lack of knowledge and understanding is very bad. American's don't know the difference between Bulgaria-Ukraine-Estonia-Lithuania-Croatia-Macedonia-Latvia-Denmark-Albania-Bosnia either. And that's pretty bad. It's not just the poor knowledge of geography, but lack of cultural and historical understanding. Better understanding leads to a better world.
The US is driven by interest. It has little or nothing to do with human rights. Although, the things happening in China are alarming. The US (like any great power is simply pulling the "human rights card" whenever they please). Otherwise they would show a similar attitude towards other populations (in different situation, of course: Armenians, Palestinians...). But that is not in line with their interests. The US could show more interest towards what's happening in Mexico or El Salvador, but they are afraid, because it is too close to them or, they already have a very bad reputation in Latin America. It is odd how the UN's influence and reputation has dwindled in the past 20 years. I would like to see a more peaceful world, where people really care about each other. Michael Jackson was a lot more humanitarian than any of the US'/UN's hypocrite presidents. Today, the world has lost its moral direction. Any argument goes, so long as it suits political interests.
mindless acts, sanction China cos of Xinjiang, sanction cotton ie pressures business to sanction Xinjiang cotton, then supporting the Ughui there??? by cutting their works. motive is clear, to creat unrest and cut bri. but the prosperity from cotton for the farmers is their competitors but the cost of leaving is 0 anyway
It's not because of lack of understanding, but history. If you are familiar with the eight nations alliance war that was comprised of east, central and west europe, includes Russia and Germany, the US and Japan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight-Nation_Alliance Japan is the number one adversary, followed by Russia. The US is actually at the back, probably frenemy and along with Germany which sells warships and arms to the Qing government.
I know exactly why you love the Chinese people H&M, but the people no longer have the apetite for your products, you may leave now. we would love to boycot you for insulting and attacking Xinjiang cotton https://qr.ae/pG7crQ Do you think that H&M will withdraw from China or adopt Xinjiang cotton for their products eventually? the thing is, nobody in China, consumer or government, required H&M to use cotton from Xinjiang. the company has every right to choose where to source their supply from. it is a business decision.
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/suez-canal-crisis-morphs-global-supply-chain-wrecking-ball Does the Suez Canal and the Evergreen get to be mentioned here contributing to the crash if they have more problems dislodging it? 12% of all sea faring freight pass through there. Perhaps an Energy price increase if the Tankers can't make it into the Mediterranean Sea?
its a test run to see how closing of the water way will impact sea trades Japan own the ship Taiwan steer the ship some friend sabotage the ship
https://t.me/rtintl/3279 Chinese BURN their NIKES as clothes brands rally against alleged forced Uyghur labor International brands such as Nike and H&M are facing a massive BACKLASH and BOYCOTT on the Chinese social media platform Weibo - after the brands took a stand on NOT USING cotton from Xinjiang. Statements from the brands recently posted online highlight their concerns over the alleged ABUSE and FORCED labor of Uyghur Muslims in the region. Chinese fans are UP IN ARMS, sharing videos of themselves burning Nike sneakers - calling the social media storm a matter of “NATIONAL PRIDE”.
Recently, lots of hacking, not surprising. I'm surprised a container to europe only costs $6000. It's too cheap, thought it is about $20k. Maybe if they ban oil for ships in the future, use batteries, $50k per container.
chinese caring about Uyghurs thats a laugh. Killing uyghur muslims is a national sport in china. There should be no national pride for china on that front
Nike and H&M don't really have a choice, the negative image from using sinful cotton is worst than losing just one regional market. Brand image is more important than any singular market.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/myanmar-coup-7-year-old-died-her-father-s-arms-n1262063 Kids got killed in dictatorship crackdowns by accident or intentionally is not unheard of, but read this case. Gives me the creeps. Sounds like insanity? Or Satan is at work.
its a tough decisions for Chinese owners that have these brands outside China, they would have to close their activitites as well to support the mainland Chinese net citizen when you support propagandas based on lies, people would hate this, liar companies I don't think this would be in China only, many overseas Chinese own busineses the crash is on
Nowadays, it's more of a liability than an asset. Big change from just a year ago. Some of my PRC neighbours are learning to adopt the local accent. For kids it's much harder, so they get them to speak english. This is happening in a majority ethnic Chinese city. The truth is far worst than the "lies" that the fake media are saying.
This is very bad. They also believe China is the center of the world. Both are proof of self-centeredness.
https://fb.watch/4uI1GjZoFU/ Xinjiang is China's largest cotton production base. Over 90 percent of north Xinjiang's cotton fields are now harvested by mechanical cotton pickers, while the modern practice is gaining steam in south Xinjiang
discremination based on place is not practice in their home town, they practice human equality rather than human in equality its call self centred ???
