How long has there been this 'distinction' between 'circulating legal tender' and 'commemorative legal tender'? I have heard of 'Non-Circulating Legal Tender', NCLT, coins but they are usually accepted at face value in banks shops and everywhere else.
I can't remember where I read this, But in Australia as I understand the shops and regular commercial banks don't legally have to accept non circulating legal tender, but they can. However the RBA has to accept them for face value. So maybe in the UK something similar.. Where the BoE has to legally accept for face value..
