Are there many coin collectors of world coins as opposed to bullion collectors on the forum. . I have a few tins that a friend has given me to sell and try to ID. apart from the known silver Oz , Kiwi and Brit. there are some very old interesting coins from quite a few countries going back some till the 1800s .. My friend wants to see what she can get for them , there maybe a gem or two among them. I will try to ID from the net but might require some advice and help anyone care to help let me know please. There could be some pieces at a good price. cheers Vangbac. PS for instance a copper circle around a silver center small with Victoria bust I am sure it is silver. and one penny model around the copper circle.????????
how many have you got there to Id? If there isn't too many, upload a few pics and I am sure the brains trust here will help out and probably buy. I'd like to see some pics but mainly as a learning experience.
Apart from copper type coins there are 40/50 silvery coins with maybe syrian writing he spent time in Syria and some go back to the grandfathers days. some south America, Mexico and others both copper and silvery!! I have no idea. Photos will have to be done tonight as I have to do on a notebook. I will post a few tonight. Like a time warp to see them.
Can I suggest, if not already known, the help of the Standard Catalogue of World Coins... 'The Krause' ! Of course, a few pictures and/or a comprehensive description are always a good start... I am sure there will be a few guys in this forum that will have a fair idea of many different angles how to do it ! I won't volonteer as my own knowledge is quite limited, but I am keen to see how this is going to go.
im also looking forward, take a photo of both sides of the coins and they will be id-ed and maybe there will be some bids on 'em
Also looking forward to seeing them vangbac, and then we get to play "Mmmm....let me identify that for you". I like that game. More interesting than watching that game of "football" between some town called port and hawthorn mentioned on one of the other threads. I think it was a typo by Dusty, should have been "Reds v Rebels".
Hi all, here are a few shots a slow process. some US go back to late 1800s silver I assume.Ill do a few every day. any help appreciated. Have found one 2 pound 1823 but weighs only just over 8 grams so obviously a copy but old.
1st one is a token i think 2nd one is 40 Para from Egypt - copper i think 3rd one is 10 Centisimi - Italian 4th argentinian 5th us silver coins mintage figures and such can be obtained from the Krause catalog
Its more than a tokan as on the net the model penny was 1844 and was one of the designs put up to take the place of the old heavy copper pennies.
Details on the first one - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1844_Victoria_One_Penny_Model May or may not be silver. Looks silver.
i offer $10 aud + $2 for regular postage for coin on the bottom with the bird. the 1st one is silver, not sure what the asw is.
