Does anyone know the weight of this? My guess is 10 kilo. I've seen Lunars that big for sale on APMEX. It just seems a bit excessive to me. If I was to buy that much silver at one time I'd opt for something a bit more liquid than that. Another 180 ounces and you've got a full monster box. This seems more like a fancy ornament you would put in a protective case or something. Basically what I'm trying to say is I'm too poor to even imagine buying something like this. Source:
Yes, it's a 10 kilogram coin from the Perth Mint. We sell a few of them each year. The premium is quite high but a lot of people like having them on display in their offices. Cheers, Joey
I need one of them for my dragon set, and would probably held off buying 10 kgs of other silver to get this one, but the premium was too expensive to make it feasible. It would have been the centre piece of the collection but they made so many coins that year I gave up trying to get them all.
Quite a few premiums drop once they hit the secondary market. Some go up if the coin is popular. I can't see many of these hitting the market and if they do, I would like to think they would be even more expensive, but I can afford to wait and see if they drop in price on resale. In which case I might get one.
I remember when they first came out, considered one but the premium was worth 3x kilo Dragons at the time. Liquidity would obviously be too much of an issue.
It's kinda funny I say I'm too poor to get that and then everybody is like "Yeah I was thinking about getting one of those." Kick me while I'm down why don't you!
That's life, being kicked while you are down will give you incentive to rise above according to Brother Dave.
Apart from the enjoyment gained from kicking people while they were down, I notice that many people were thinking it, but few actually had the money to do it. I was looking at the unallocated silver in my Self Managed Super Fund and trying to work out if there was a way I could convert it into a 10kg Dragon without setting off alarm bells to the auditors. I think if there had been a few for sale I might have looked into it but it was going to be a hassle just finding one.
I would love to see a picture of a set of these 10kg 'coins'. It would have probably costed around 60-70k so far.
