The assertion that what was written in the initial post is defamatory is an absurd claim. Dealers need to be called out on their crap if in fact the story is accurate. It's also a very stupid assertion to claim that "This Morning" vs "This Afternoon" means that there was a large timeframe between....those are the words Numismatist chose. I'm glad that someone is pointing out their experience and what clearly appears to be poor business practice.
5 weeks ago you could buy silver for 300 cents less. Just to place this 'unfortunate timing' story in a context.
Numismatist Had exactly the same experience about a year ago, even sent out an email to club members to check it out for themselves. Just recently I placed an order for 40oz of RCM product (phone order) - full tube and 15 singles. Invoice came in with TWO prices, 25oz at tube price and 15oz at single price, I had a winge and was given a credit. Still left a bad taste in my mouth. This order was going to be backed up about 7 days later with another 100oz order as I needed 140oz all up. I didnt bother with the 100oz. Not going to say who the dealers are, but a lot of bs does take place.
Have you tried to PM Ossie with a link to this topic? He might be able to shed some light on what happened or at least give the dealer's side of the story.
I have noticed that there is a 50c difference in price between the two coins that has come and gone over the last 1/2 hour. Initially they were the same price, now the 50c difference is back It is possible that it is a rounding issue, i.e. since the dealers have different formula for calculating the price of coins, its possible that at certain spot prices the the 2013 kook formula might round it down in price and the 2014 Kook formula might round its price up, at other spot levels both coins get rounded down and the difference is zero. Unfortunately I didn't screenshot when the coins were the same price, only the 50 cent difference that the site currently has. Will keep watching.. PS I think Numismatist has gone about this the right way by simply asking the question, and letting the jury decide Initially I thought it looked very dodgy, but now I'm not so sure.
This exact scenario happens with some products on my website. Some prices get rounded - if a raw calculated price is $500.20 it might round down to $500, but another product is $500.25 and will round to $500.50 - viola, a 5c calculated difference becomes a 50c difference. Reason that we round is that we use the same prices over the counter as online - it's *far* simpler to deal with rounded prices than something ended in 37c etc. I suspect that this is simply a rounding artifact, not a "I'll dive into the back end of the store and tweak my pricing algorithms". Just for the record so there's no misunderstanding from anyone reading the thread - this thread wasn't about my website, I'm just using it to confirm the scenario suggested by bull_bear as something that does happen.
A little while ago after a few observations, over a trading range of a few dollars, I calculated the pricing formula for 50 cent coins on another dealers website (no prizes for guessing who's) Nearly all of the time there is a 50c spread between the buy and sell, but every so often the spread drops to 45c and this is in line with the formula used, and the 'buy' rounding up while the 'sell' rounding down. Then when spot moves another cent or two, the difference goes back to 50 cents. It would be good to get some input from the dealer over the next few days, just to confirm/deny 100% if its an issue or not. (Note I'm not a customer of the dealer)
While I get the OP's point totally.... Why not just call back and say "I noticed I am now out $50 as prices just changed... Will you honour the price of 5 mins ago please?" If the answer is "no" then it seems dodgy, but if "yes" then it would prove that there was no conspiracy. JMHO Shiny
So did you actually get any result for your rant? or maybe as Shiny said could just have called and resolved the problem with the retailer.
