Highly doubt it. Bit more background info would help... Where did you get it, what coin is it, how long have you had it etc
Its a $2 Australian that I got in change the other day. The other side has only normal wear and I cant work out how the damage happened. Frustrating..
Could it be a coin that has gone through the scrap metal "shreader"? ie When car bodies are scrapped any loose change etc goes into the machine that gouges everything into small pieces. At one stage I read that the banks and the RAM refused to accept these coins.
Keep it! you have the only one like it and even experienced coin collectors dont know how it got that way other than a guess.
