I have been collecting the Remembrance Day $2 out of circulation and was wondering if others were doing the same. Its a hard thing to do here in Tassie as we haven't had a coin delivery to the island for over 12 months, I am left relying on what people carry here in their pockets. Only managed to score a dozen so far, anyone having more luck with them? Does anybody know where to find them by the bag, are they still available? Cheers Jon
I have about 50. The girls from the coffee shop keep an eye out for them. Few and far between. About 3 mill in circulation. I'm debating going down to the coin shop and buying 10 50c pieces as I reckon in this dip the 50s will appreciate faster.
I was fortunate enough to score an unopened bag thanks to a very generous member. So its no easier pickings in the big smoke then I have a few people checking their change and I rat through a lot of cash registers as well
I've been to lots of smaller suburban bank branches and so far have only managed to find 2. Add 1 more someone gave me as a swap and have a grand total of 3. Would also have loved a $50 sealed bag of them but it's highly unlikely to find any of them now. They appear to be quite uncommon. Also had a 20c Canberra centenary coin which i unfortunately used and should have kept.
This is an interesting thread, gives me something to do at work. Since I started yesterday I've pulled 5 out of circulation, only another 2 999 995 to go and I know some of you guys have them. Would circulated coins be collector's items in the future though, or would they have to be Unc?
Are they still making rolls? I thought they were all bagged now except for the occassional roll you can buy at the post office at collector prices. I don't think circulated coins will go up much in value unless they discover a variety or something like that. I usually collect them and put them in a draw for a few years, if no one discovers a variety in that time I just keep one and spend the rest. There are collectors who spend hours comparing the coins but sometimes they miss it for a few years, I don't think the Incuse Millenium was discovered until a few years ago so it might be worth hanging onto them a bit longer but I hate to think what has happenned to the purchasing power of any coins you put to one side. How much do they have to go up in value each year to negate inflation and eBay costs and still make a worthwhile profit? The uncirculated are sold at such a massive premium it is a wonder anyone buys them. I still search my change but throw back coins that I would have kept a few years ago, I have enough Capt Cooks now so I only keep the variety.
I just got an encapsulated uncirculated $2 remembrance coin thrown in as a free gift from a small Macquarie Mint purchase. The uncoloured version that is.
God no. It was a present (but looked it up on the website, as you do). At least it was silver so their brain is in the right place (even if they did pay double spot).
Goodaye Jon, there was a lot around in early Jan this year. You might be lucky enough to get a bag or two, if you know a retailer. That's where I got mine from mate. Just ask at the front desk of Woolies or Coles or even the local pub. They'll come in bags of 25 coins. Best of luck. H
Haven't come across any of these for quite a while, looks like they have all been plucked from circulation.
