Awesome mate, hope you have a great time. Yeah, we always mock each others accents, but in a fun way.
Nice try, but yeah, I'm sure. The American hosts dialogue is not captioned. There are only subtitles when the "non American" participants are speaking. Cheeky buggers. If someone did that to me I'd be right pi$$ed off. :/
yeh cos the people are not responsible for their government's actions since we all know that democracy in the west is a farce
we have subtitles for a lot of american shows, i.e., anything that's hillbilly, Alabama, georgia, Louisiana, etc. Swamp People is one of the shows. Sometimes it really helps for BBC as well. I was watching Ramsey's kitchen nightmares, in the UK, and I couldnt understand half of what the cook was saying. Its more of a reflection on the American not being well-cultured, and no offense is meant.
That's just a really stupid thing to say. 44% of American's voted for our President. There are over 100 million that did not. Get over yourself.
'The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter" Sir Winston Churchill.
I was thinking about a long rant on this subject but decided against this for various reasons. Suffice to say that apathy is the great destroyer of civilization and democracy, in it's modern failed form, thrives on this apathy and nurtures corruption and greed. We have a compulsory voting system here in Aus so all must vote or be fined. The result is all the masses of people who don't give a crap about anything except sucking on the Govt tit and being told what to do and think from cradle to grave have a huge impact on the choice of our leaders. Probably enough said I think. This is a subject which causes me much angst.
If the USA is hated, it's not from jealousy. It's because of your idiotic wars killing innocent people. And your ass-wipe dollar causing so many problems around the globe.
USA has Vegas you idiots. Any country that can produce that is entitled to run the world. For the record I have been to Vegas more times than anyone else here on this forum. On one visit I actually did not drink any water for 4 days excluding ice cubes.
No visit to the US is complete without a visit to lost wages. Just make sure your return air fare is pre paid.
Way off subject, I know, but Thinking of Churchill, he is so eminently quotable and I simply have to get this off my mind. A woman approached the Prime Minister and said, "If you were my husband I'd put poison in your tea" to which Churchill replied, "madam, if you were my wife I would gladly drink it."
haha, this one always gets me, funny man. Churchill was woken by his secretary with the news that a back bench MP had been caught naked on Hamstead Heath, having sex with a Grenadier Guard. Churchill asked "wasn't it very cold last night"? Yes said the secretary , actually it was one of the coldest nights this year. "Doesn't it make you proud to be British"said Churchill
A women said to churchill Your drunk (Churchill was an alcoholic) He answered In the morning I'll be sober, but you Madam, Will still be ugly.
I was being sarcastic numnutz! Just highlighting the absursity of the statement "I think a country gets bad press from the actions their government takes, its not the peoples fault"... you just a little slower than usual today?
"Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence." c.f. Our (newest) Benny Hill thread
Debatable point. I don't follow the camp that attributes this phrase to Oscar Wilde so I always drop the latter part. I suppose I have to defer that some sarcasm is rather well thought out but most is low brow IMO.
