Can anyone shed any ideas on why everybody is willing to sell their first born child to get their hands on just about any silver dragon proof, yet the gold proofs don't seem to be selling ?
They are still available just about everywhere and nobody seems to talk about them here - despite having low mintage limits.

All those who have bought one or multiples of the silver proofs: why aren't you interested in buying the gold proofs ?
    Too expensive ?

    1. They're butt ugly.
    2. Historically Perth Mint Gold proof coins underperform Silver
    3. Silver is cheaper than Gold, $200 is easier to fork out than $2000.

    Take your pick :p

Some people like it, but the majority of the people did not like gold dragon design.

    Sales figure reflect this.

    Not really, I don't.

It's just that gold is still available until now, whereas silver (non 1oz) is temporarily suspended to clear backlog, except for 10 oz and kg.

Hence the assumption on sales figure. The proof gold is also slow to clear, most post office still have them on display.

Value wise, gold will move more. Volume wise, silver moves more. Nothing surprising here, but silver dragon is in high demand, gold dragon not so much.

Offline conversations all touch on the design, not by my suggestion, I merely asked why. We can do a poll on ss and I am sure the poll will be able to tell ss' opinion on the design.

We have 2000+ members, not a small stacker population.

The premium for the gold proof is nothing compared to the silver if you calculate :

COIN SPOT CAN BE HAD FOR Premium Over Spot
    GOLD 1oz $1628 ~ $2485 ~ 53%
    SILVER 1 oz $32.98 ~ say $250 ~ 658%

And if you compared it to when it was issued (~ $3100 right?), it's even at a discount at the moment!

I think Fishball point 3. is more to the point. Not many can fork out > $2000 for a coin everyday.

In addition, it's easier to gain 10,20,30 % on the silver ($250 + 30% = $325). For the gold to do the same, say gain 30%, using the above price, it means you need to sell the gold
    at $3230.

And if you have 2 grand+ lying around, and you know what you are doing, the gold 1oz is really not the first thing that would come into your mind. The choices for good purchases are huge!

2 x 1KG silver, 10 x 1 oz silver dragon proof!, 40 x 1 oz dragon silver BU, and on, and on and on.....

    Just my simple thoughts...

I would suggest price is the biggest contributing factor,

    ____2012 Dragon Gold Proof 1/10oz Coin 2S1215GAAA AUS $ 339.00

    2012 Dragon Gold Proof 1/4oz Coin 2S1215FAAA AUS $ 789.00

    2012 Dragon Gold Proof 1oz Coin 2S1215DAAA AUS $ 3,100.00

    2012 Dragon Gold Proof Three-Coin Set 2S1215ZAAA AUS $ 4,100.00

    ____2012 Dragon Silver Proof 1oz Coin 2S1216DAAA AUS $ 112.50

    2012 Dragon Silver Proof Three-Coin Set 2S1216ZBAA AUS $ 379.00

    2012 Dragon Silver Proof 1kg Coin 2S1216AAAA AUS $ 1,990.00

And obviously i skimmed and did not see the post about proof.

Yes, for proof, price is one of the contributor. For bullion. I find the fractional dragons to be slow. Hence my guess about design.

I think its mostly price try reselling a whole series 2 gold proof set. Another thing is that all the other series II silver proofs have sold out previously and all the gold are still available for people collecting sets who are after resale for profit the whole set that is sold out is easier & much more appealing than trying to sell a set that is still readily available.

Yep, apart from 1oz, slow move though. Even the reasonably cheap (dollar wise) 1/10 fractionals.
