Because after 37 and 38 the public feedback was that overwhelmingly, they were considered to big and cumbersome to be used as everyday transaction money so the decision was made to discontinue them. 1for1
Coinage is actually something they take seriously. If people don't want to use a particular coin (or note), they won't, so getting stuck with real Australian money that you can't spend reflects badly on the entire currency.
They had the (derogatory?) nickname "Casey's Cartwheel" after the Treasurer of the day who pushed for their introduction. Originally they were released as a coronation commemorative, but when they were reissued the following year, they kinda fizzled.
because they too large coin, ppl normally carry paper money rather than crowns. 5 pieces crowns almost 100 gram in your pocket so use paper money better than large amount crowns. and if purchase low price stuff, use florin is fine, Crown=2.5 florins hard to calculate. like 1 kg sausage worth 1 florin when you give seller 1 crown, he need make you back one florin and one sixpence, these "point five" make ppl confuse so it's useless. then government decide stop mint Crown in 1938
yeah, think about 5 crowns equal about 11 piece 50 cent's weight , try put 11 piece 50 cent in your pocket and how it's feel? furthermore ppl used to ride or walk in old days, therefore holding big quantity coins in pocket is the best way attracting thief or robber (kidding)
hand full of 50s in the pocket for half an hour. could see a bruise happening if i had them there for a day.
"5 pieces crowns almost 100 gram in your pocket so use paper money better than large amount crowns" Hmm... 28 grams each would make 5 of them.. 140 grams. so not to disclude you from my next maths bee comp but time to bust out the calc for your est me thinks Nic! 1for1
