What is the amount of ounces you would need to make this worth while?

If you want to melt your own coins, you need at least 10kg, preferably 20kg+ and either 50% or Sterling, not a mixture.

Have done this before .. costs are about $75 per kilo to convert it into bars, so you need to consider that when paying out for coins.

There are easier ways... PM me in a month or so.

    Ck.

    No idea.

I did try to get some refined back when silver was around $20. Had a few kilos of pre dec.

I don't think the refiners were interested, they wanted 100kg before they fired up the melting pot and they were going to pay less than spot anyway.

I have seen a few stirling bars around but no 50% bars.

One of the good things about having coins is that they bear the government's quality assurance seal, whereas anything I melt and pour needs to be assayed before anyone would believe me, an additional expense which is why I ended not bothering in the end.

I would be interested in finding out a bit more though. Pre dec coins sell for spot or less whereas even an ugly bar has a bit of a premium on it.

    Group melt?
