I am new to collecting lunars and was wondering about the colored ones where the animal is colored are these more rare? Collectable? Valuable? Are they done by the mint? Are certain colors better than others? Does each year have the same colors? I have a lot more questions that I cant think of rit now so all information is appreciated even if it's to something I didn't as k
stay away from colored, stick to bullion 1oz as this is generally the most popular. There are some exception but you probably have to learn that on your own as it is to numerous to recount
Hi If your just starting out collecting try to get your hands on the 2014 Year of the Horse 3-coin silver Proof Set. Another Hint try not to buy lunar coins with Certificate numbers ending with a 4, In Chinese 4 sound like the Chinese word DEATH. sales start at 12.00am 03/09/2013 Perth Time hope this helps James
I don't reckon the 3-coin proof sets are as good as the 'ol days. The only way you USED to be able to get a 1/2oz proof or 2oz proof lunar was to buy the 3-coin set. NOW you can get the 1/2oz proof and 2oz proof individually AS WELL as in the 3-coin set. Not saying the gee gee 3-coin sets won't do well, but diluted it's appeal IMHO. Good to have your opinion though JamesG as you are in the LCS biz.
what you said is true but i think the 3 coin set being limited to only 1000 can go off just on rarity alone.
The colored lunars are more sought after in the US and Europe while they are not very popular in Aussie, still I think the older releases like the Ox, Tiger and Rabbit are worth acquiring as they are becoming not easy to find nowadays
BU color Vs Proof color color based on the lunar year animals. http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...013-year-of-the-snake-typeset-collection.aspx easier to complete the gilded as compared to colour... for bu color may be as easy as well. but proof color must be harder and more expensive to complete.
thanks for the replies... ...I scored the green and yellow snake for.40 usd.. I also have twenty horses coming on ebay I see like four or five.different color dragons.. is this.correct? or are some fKes? is there somewhere to see the official mint colors fir each year? also I see a bunch of seriea one sets being advertised as 1999-2010 but I thought series two stayed in like 2007?
Here you go! http://www.apmex.com/product/68479/2012-year-of-the-dragon-1-oz-colorized-10-coin-silver-set
that's PM color dragons http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...ar-of-the-dragon-1oz-silver-ten-coin-set.aspx for China packaging
next question.. i have seen numerous coins of the exact same color where the ball shaped thing next to the dragon has different shades.. ie either black, half black etc etc.. here is an example... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Australia-2...World_Coins&hash=item2a2959b6c1#ht_2844wt_898 whats up with that? ill see a black with red outline with a complete black circle and then one with a half shaded circle
That's just reflection / camera angle due to the "fire-ball" being highly polished. Nothing to worry about. H
last question... .. is there any difference besides a coa anf a nice display case and the price of course between proof and bu?
