Hopefully thet have secured a senate seat. I'd like to think the 1 I voted above the line for them played a significant role

I think if the average Joe Q citizen were aware of their policies, they have the potential to become a much more popular party. If they do get a seat, they need to make the most of it by getting their faces in the media ala Xenephon

I think the icing on the cake is that the LDP has pushed out Lee Rhiannon of the greens. She's the pits, she makes other greens candidates look conservative

If they do pick up a seat, a great start.

You could vote above the line for them in NSW? On the Victorian senate ballot, you could only vote for them below the line.

I would like to think that the NSW result then reflects a genuine support base - not 200k numpty voters who saw the word Liberal and voted for them by mistake.

    That's exactly what happened imo.

Voters saw Liberal and voted for the LDP by mistake...they didn't read their Ballot Paper correctly.

Even so the LDP didn't win enough primary votes to get a seat in their own right. They were preferenced into the seat by other parties.

I was so happy when I heard this news yesterday. When I was still in Aus I attended quite a few meetings for the LDP and had non paying membership. It is truly the only political party in Australia that I have any semblance of faith in.
