To my surprise I've actually been finding some decent deals on 1966'ers. Have been paying no more than $10 each. But the nerve of THIS guy: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330507139019
Like any open market where the policing is suspect at best, you'll get a higher proportion of scammers there. When buying from Ebay, there's one very simple philosiphy - Caveat Emptor! I personally would rather buy from trusted sellers. You might spend a few bucks more, but the chances of getting ripped off is exponentially lower. I'll stick with SS trade forums and my local dealer(s) thanks.
A good philosophy. Rarely do I purchase on Evil-bay but do like to keep the eye out and have picked up some genuine deals from time to time. New member to SS, so I'm looking forward to scouring the trade forum!
i don't see the issue, it clearly states that it's in very good condition and at an amazingly low price.
Just checked it out now, $35 with Free Shipping ! I dont actually mind people like this. Buyers on eBay should be able to see that cheaper 66ers exist. Its the German silver, hge and mills listings that should be rooted out.
I believe that this is further evidence of many unexplained phenomena and that the person may be a traveller from the future.
I see this as just another classic example of the modern business paradigm where profit derived from ignorance, rather than industry, is both morally and socially acceptable.
The only reason you MAY be interested would be a specimen coin, but it doesnt state that so I presume its just a circulated coin but a top quality 1966 50c specimen would fetch more than the going $10 rate.
Listed as New, unused and unopened. What a crock. And in regards to the price - fraud by ignorance is all too common. And it's perfectly legal. (Telstra and the telcoms industry are especially good at it)
$ 35 with Free Shipping. Whoever it was has done the right thing, by removing it. By overvalueing regular coins it will just end up costing the seller with eBay fees and the auctions would expire as unsold. by default the $35 price tag should have a slight lifting effect on the prices of other 66-ers. So he was doing all the other 50 cent piece sellers a favour.
Must have been the well crafted (if I do say so myself) Ebay message I sent him. Sure, I'd pay a little more than $10 if it was TOP quality, but $35 is a joke. At least the person had the sense to remove it.
True. I score good buys on single coins all the time. US 90% coinage can be bought for melt all day long if you search around. And, many of those coins are in very good condition so there is a little numismatic value as well. Still, lots of crappy deals there on flea-bay ...no doubt.
