OK! Summer is coming on and the family wants to go out for a picnic. The family goes to the shopping centre..Can I have a drink MUM?DAD ? 4 drinks from the drink vending machine will cost you $10..It is quite probable that this may happen twice at least on a hot day... OK I know that you can always drink water and then you will save heaps but it doesn't always play out that way in a lot of families. The answer buy yourself one of those 8 can cloth and plastic coolers and 2 ice brick packs. Buy your cans in bulk (60cents a can is readily available) 24 cans cans $13. Now when you take the family out instead of paying $20 for two rounds of drinks, you will only pay $5 approximately. Do this 20 times a year and you save $300 with buying 2 cans each or 40 times 1 can each. $300 savings+= 10ozs silver Anyone else have a good little earner. Regards Errol 43
^^ haha that reminds me of the no name soft drinks we got as kids. Mum & Dad bought them in bulk from Jewels (now that is going way back) for probably 10c or 20c per drink. We never got the "real" stuff. But your idea is a good one and can be expanded on. Whenever I go out I try to be self sufficient and take all the food/water I'll need with me. Much cheaper than buying on the go. My other tip is to walk into town and not park your car in Westfield for long periods of time. Jeebus they know how to charge. I learned that lesson the hard way (forgot my keys for my work parking space) on the w/e and shan't be repeating it anytime soon. That is an ounce of silver I'll never get!
1. Catch the train (saves me about $150 per week) 2. Stop buying lunches (saves me approx $35 per week) 3. Stop buying coffee (saves me approx $17 per week) - I no longer drink coffee. 4. Stop buying beer (saves me approx $20 per week) 5. Wife buys kids clothes at local markets. Not sure how much this saves but I'd estimate $15 per week. So there you have it. An extra $217 per week for silver.
I'll raise 1. ride a bike to work. upfront cost approx $800 (still worth maybe $200) 5+ years ago and <$100 in maintenance + no speeding/parking fines = win
I'll do a switch-a-roo. Buy ready made takeaway lunches for $35-45 per week (depending on what I get) to save myself 1-2 hours in time per week (for the same quality and freshness, that is) and use that time to take on extra work and earn over double back even after the tax man stealeth his "share".
My wife doesn't make my dinner (because she's a vego who eats unidentifiable green, red and brown things that I would spray weedkiller on if I saw them in the garden).
Connect your toilet and washing machine to the rainwater tank to save on mains water costs. Go to the toilet at work to save on water and toilet paper costs Shower during the week at work - works for me. Don't spend $5 notes - this has been discussed before, you can search for it.
1. Australian breweries are mostly foreign owned. 2. Coffee franchises where I frequent were mostly foreign owned. 3. Local markets support emerging Australian businesses. And pensioners gaming the system. So, in fact, I'm supporting local small businesses by helping the demise of big business.
Well, I was just being sarcastic anyway. Or attempting it. I always laugh at threads where people talk about Australian's (or anyone) being cheap. It's like "what, you don't try to get the best deals that you can and save money where you can?"
No Name Brand! Gee you were lucky! We used to dream of the No Name Brand, when I got home all we had was soda stream and my father used to make me drink the Creaming Soda because we had run out of the recognisable 'flavours'! But you tell that to the kids today and they wouldn't believe you!
We used to dream of having a soda stream. We only had cottees cordial, and even that was strictly rationed out. Even now I don't buy fizzy drinks for our kids, if they're thirsty they have filtered water with a squeeze of lemon.
