I'm from Sydney and I've decided to start stacking silver bars and figured I'd say hi here. It's going to be slow going - I am a uni student (read: poor!) and have no special knowledge of finance or economics (I'm a chemistry major). I used to collect coins as a kid and, although I've considered starting that again, this would be an entirely separate enterprise; I'm mostly just interested in the silver here, though I do find it intrinsically interesting and beautiful itself. I'm also interested in other metals, especially platinum and palladium - largely for their value in chemical/industrial processes, particularly in catalysis (also true of silver) - although I'm not likely to be buying much of either any time soon! So, for now the plan is to just make small, frequent silver purchases. I may buy the odd (very) small amount of other metals (gold, platinum, palladium...), also.
Hi and welcome! You could put your chemistry major to good use, by learning how to turn silver to gold!
I'd be better off as a nuclear physicist if I wanted to do that ...spent nuclear fuel contains a mixture of all sorts of things, including precious metals and particle accelerators can also 'make' gold. Unfortunately, the cost to run these machines far outweighs the value of the gold and other elements obtained.
Thanks; I had seen that. Is it mostly a quick buy/swap forum? Or is it for discussion also? I'd probably be a bit out of place, since I'm quite the silver virgin.
We meet every week in the CBD and if it's just a buy/swap forum it would have sunk years ago. I am sure the Divine SammySilver will enlighten you on everything you need to know about silver or virginity :lol:
I will have to try and come some time. I thought that it might just be a quick lunch hour buy/swap affair, but it would be great to meet some people that know silver. If I'm going to do it, I might as well try and figure out how to do it properly while I'm getting started.
