I recently lifted a few cheap Georgian guineas while back in the UK. Does anyone else have any Guineas in their collection? What do you think of them? RD
I have a few ... Have Half and Quarter Guinea as well (All Georgian) Won a George III 1/3 guinea in the latest Downies auction.... Must remember to go and get it....
Never seen one, don't own one, but now looking! (God, I hate this site - so many attractive items!!) Hilaire, thanks for the cartoon. You must have caught me gloating over my stack!!! Must remember to change my name to Silas to suit. (edited for finger-fault, local [again! sigh])
Good on you RD,have seen a few selling for more than 600 on ebay recently, dont remember which dates though.I've 1797 and 1817 guineas weighing slightly more than 8gms.So where in U.K you purchased it?
I picked most of my gold up mainly through UK antiques shops and pawnbrokers. I got one of the guineas from an antiques shop in Kendal, and another from a pawnbrokers outside Chester. Both family buisinesses. I've no intention of selling them as yet, maybe leave them as heirloom pieces, though I won't follow my family tradition of bending them into rings or putting a hole through them and using them as pendants! And... I'm currently in London about to fly out to KL... I've missed my opportunity for treasure photography. I wish I'd took some pictures in my favourite jewellers in Chester, a place called Powells... Well worth checking out if you like your antique jewellery. I picked up a gorgeous masonic signet there a few years ago and always spend a little there whenever I'm back.
