Got a gift from grandma today, brought over from Taiwan. She bought it for me when I was young as it is my lunar sign, and wanted to wait till I was older to pass onto me She said it was gold, however it does not come with a certificate or anything and no markings anywhere. It weighs around 45g / 1.5oz Anyone would have any idea what it would be worth? (not that I would sell it as it's a sentimental gift!) but just curious.. or would it need to go to a gold dealer to evaluate?
Wow..how beautiful!..Are you sure it's not gold plated?Better to check with a jeweller or gold buyer to get an idea about the purity.Best Regards,Lucy
A golden cock.....erel ! I don't know if w davis and sons offer of a free XRF for silverstackers is still on the table, it may be worth a phone call, I think CK was talking about an XRF he had access to in the last couple of months.
As a gift, I would just accept it as is and leave it a mystery. The chicken should roost without interference in a XRF free world.
My daughter has something similar that is plated 24k from Singapore. It may be similar to these http://www.risis.com/pig-delight-p-576.html They have a cool raging bull if you are into these things. http://www.risis.com/index.php My money would be on it being plated.
LOL ok a free range chook it shall remain for now.. till curiosity gets the better of me some day down th track
Another Monster gold piece on ebay..'22CT TUTANKHAMUN CUSTOM MADE PENDANT 106 GRAMS'..Check item number 220811070510..Gorgeous
Do these 3 things at home first. 1. Ask your grandma the year she bought it and how much she paid for it. (you can work out the gold price on that year). 2. Unfortunately if you don't see any small marking on the rooster regarding gold purity, then the rooster probably gold plated only. 3. Do a density test with a digital scale in a cup of water. (goggle youtube video if not sure how to do it)
Density table 9ct 10.9 to 12.7 14ct 12.9 to 14.6 18ct Yellow 15.2 to 15.9 18ct White 14.7 to 16.9 22ct 17.7 to 17.8 24ct 19.32 Exactly 45 gams 24 carat gold suspended and measured in water should weight 2.33 grams on 0.01 gram accuracy digital scale.
