I hope some of our members attend and post similar informative commentary as they did last year for those of us who cannot attend: Six GATA favorites will speak at Australia's big annual hard-money conference, the Gold Symposium, to be held Monday and Tuesday, November 14 and 15, at the Crystal Palace convention center in Luna Park in Sydney: -- Eric Sprott, CEO of Sprott Asset Management. -- Market analyst Louis Boulanger. -- Egon von Greyerz of Matterhorn Asset Management in Zurich. -- Market analyst Alf Field. -- Ian Gordon, publisher of the Longwave Analyst letter. -- And Ben Davies, CEO of Hinde Capital in London. Dozens of resource companies will be exhibiting at the conference, and the registration fee of A$199 covers lunches as well as morning and afternoon teas. The nearby Vibe Hotel is offering conference participants a discounted room rate. http://www.gata.org/
Just a little suggestions to those of you who are going to this event this year. The last time I went to this event, you are allowed to bring camera and take photos. Assuming the rule still the same, take advantage of this, take photos of important diagrams shown on screen during presentation. You probably need to turn off the flash so you won't distract the presentation. Another important thing to do, bring a decent audio recorder and tape the presentations so you can listen to them again at home. Most of Mobile phones these days have voice recorder feature. Get your questions ready, write them down if you have to so you remember to ask the presenters during Q&A sessions. If you have books written by some presenters on the event, this is a great chance to get those books signed! ADDED: A dude in the last event I went even got a Gold coin signed by James Dines... (but I think 1 kilo silver bar is better for signing...) If you wanna get a front seat, come in early and get in early... The last time I went the ticket has no seat number so you're free to sit anywhere you want. But people tend to sit on the same chairs throughout the events. PS: The last time I went to this event, they got 6+ junior gold mining companies' CEOs did presentations about their companies. Soon after they finished their presentations, some of those company stocks went up some decent percentage. I guess they found some buyers amongst the audience.
Just been looking at Sydney accomodation for it - not a bad time of year to be there hey? Sydneysiders fancy showing us some love if were attending - maybe a Sydney meet for the Stackers' attendees? Think I'll be booking my tickets as soon as my leave is booked...
I'd be definitely down there Baron. Group bookings for delegates are always considerably more welcome I've found, and no chance I want to be in a hotel across the city from the rest of the stackers. Some interesting presentations on offer - particularly the younger companies just in their growth phase - interesting seeing them taking the stage with some of the big boys. I'm intrigued by the exhibitors information - can't find too much at the moment... RD
This sounds to me like tickets could be funded by SMSF EDIT: No idea if this is even possible or not, but I will look into it.
If you're looking for something cheap. There are lots of backpackers accommodations along George Street, Sydney. These cheap motels are quite close and within walking distance to where the symposium is.
Try Sydney Harbour YHA. Double room with private bathroom is about $150/night if you fancy sharing with another stacker from interstate. Its a short walk over the Harbour Bridge to Luna Park (past a number of excellent pubs which you can hit on the way back).
I'll look at suite deals sharpish... If I get an idea of numbers - perhaps I can get a group booking a lot cheaper... it is still nearly a quarter of a year away...
