Anyone know what the 2012 1oz gold dragons are fetching at the moment? If you can really tell? An aussie coin dealer has them listed over $2k but that sounds pretty ridiculous...

The Perth Mint 1oz Gold Dragon was sold-out from the Mint on the day of release...01 September 2011.
Only 30,000 coins were released and a limit of 5 coins per person were allowed.

The retail price from The Perth Mint for a single coin was about AUD $1803.80 and that doesn't include postage.

The spot gold price on 01 September 2011 was about USD$1821.00
    http://www.kitco.com/scripts/hist_charts/yearly_graphs.plx

Now try to find the 1oz Gold Dragon???

It's a coin that has numismatic status and is very difficult to find, it's probably going to be the "key" gold coin for lunar collectors.

Hope this gives you some insight. :)

I think it is still abit early to say that they are difficult to find because it looks like a few dealers hoarded a whole heap and are still available. But hey, don't listen to me I am not a coin collector. What I am interested though is the premium with regards to spot they sell at and with regards to the sale price in september 2011 at $1800 if that is considered the floor price for them?

    "The premium regards to spot."

There's no hard and fast rule that I know of, everyone is out to make as much profit as they can.

I'm not sure where this is going aleks...sorry I can't help more but coins like the 1oz gold Dragon's are modern numismatics.

To get an idea of the selling price, what I do is view the "completed sales list on ebay", (See link below) that gives a ball-park figure.
Unfortunately, none of the Perth Mint - Series 2, 1oz Gold Bullion Dragons have been sold of late. http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Coins-/1..._okw=&_nkw=1oz+Gold+Lunar+Dragon&LH_PrefLoc=2

    Re- difficult to find.

Dealers might have them, but they are holding just like collectors and stackers, so I think you'll find it very difficult to find the dragon unless you can spend the dollars.

One of the Administrators here, "Gold Pelican" purchased a roll of 5 when they werer released, I'm not sure if he has any for sale or...if in-deed he still has them???

You could PM him if you like.

Best of luck mate, you never know, someone might need cash and fwiw, I hope you get a bargain. :)

:) Maybe I should of named this thread flipping gold dragons

It sounds like I am down playing their value so I can see how you would assume I want to buy them but where I am trying to get at is this

In September 2011 the dragons were $1800 when they sold out (spot was about $1710 AUD)

Shortly after they were being flipped for up to $2300 (I think I heard as much as $2400) or about a 35% premium above spot

Now recently gold fell down to $1300 AUD and if they have a floor price of $1800 because no one wants to sell them below the issue price well then that means they are chasing just as much of a premium as when we were in the days of dragon mania ( more than 35%)

I still concider this a $2300 dollar coin even though spot has dropped, you pay what the market demands.
Spot is only part of the price. I managed to get three and would not part with them for less than $2300 ea

Wow. Didn't know the lunar gold coins commanded such a premium!

Don't think I'm willing to pay such a premium for a gold coin though. I'm sure if you waited long enough and scoured the Internet, there will be a willing seller for a good price. :)

It's an auction with over 2 days to go. Bit premature to be calling it a bargain

These coins went into strong hands. If people don't need money, then why would they sell at a loss? If they really needed to raise funds. They would most likely sell other items first.

Either way, I had a pay a slight premium for mouse and ox coins to complete a set. The tiger will also be a key date. I'm trying to find one for my brother.

Way to go in having faith in the silver stackers community and automatically assuming the worst of people

Just to clarify, those ebay listings ARE NOT MINE!

I genuinely wanted to know what these coins were selling for

    Hi Slam,

Do you mind posting what premiums you paid for the mouse and ox coins?

the person who knows or transacted just recently may not be willing to share or disclose this info.
    for many possible reasons.

or it can be that there is no recent traded ones :(

From memory, I paid around $150 over spot for each. But then the premiums were already $100 for a gold coin already. So not really that much to ensure I have a complete set.
