    Man charged over alleged sale of fake gold ingots, statues

    Wednesday, 05 August 2015 03:57:48 AM

    Police have charged a man after he allegedly sold a number of items made from fake gold.

    It's alleged the 35-year-old man sold fake gold ingots and statues to a woman for $60,000 last month.

    The buyer had the items valued, and discovered they were made from gold-painted copper.

    Detectives from Burwood Local Area Command have been investigating the matter.
    As a result of their inquires, detectives executed a search warrant at a motel room in Murray Street, Pyrmont, about 2.45am yesterday (Tuesday 4 August 2015).

    During the search, police seized eight Buddha statues and 100 replica gold ingots, all made from fake gold.

    Also seized during the search were small gold pieces (believed to be legitimate), five mobile phones, cash in various currencies, and photocopies of allegedly false passport identities.

    Police arrested a 35-year-old man at the motel. He was taken to Sydney City Police Station, where he was charged with:

    -Dishonestly obtain property by deception (two counts);

    -Possess identity info to commit etc indictable offence; and

    -Deal with property suspected proceeds of crime.

    The man appeared in Central Local Court yesterday, where he was refused bail to face the same court today (Wednesday 5 August 2015).

    The investigation continues.

    For that value they had to take action.
    I would not say this is a strike against GOLD FAKES, but more like dishonesty as a whole.
