Does anyone ever get tempted to gamble or play the lottery?

I used to go to casino and sit around four roulette tables and wait till one has hit a color five times in a row then bet 50 or a hun on the opposite color I've been up over a thousand doing this but then there are the times when it doesn't work and I lose everything buy chasing the color buy doubling my bet. Used to take 500 every three months to do this if I walk out up I just go to the bullion shop straight away so I dnt go back with my winnings.

another trick my uncle taught me is if you go to the pub to drink bet your beer money say 5$ on the three best dogs only one has to place in first second or thrid and you'll drink for free

I still get to dream but it doesn't cost me anything, I don't dream about winning the lotto of course!

I just dream about my 40 acres of farmland with the dams and the food forest on it, although winning the lotto would mean I could buy it and move in tomorrow it is still well within my current means, just too far to commute.

Of course you might be dreaming that a big lotto win would mean you don't have to work anymore, luckily I enjoy my work, right next to my house and full of enthusiastic, committed adult learners.

Still, I wouldn't turn down a couple of million if it was offered.

I hope you are not serious about believing a run of colours on a roulette table having any bearing on the next spin!?

Never tempted. I don't leave life to chance.

EDIT: probably makes me boring but whatever, I want to be rich.

As a young teenager in the early sixties I use to play in the poker games in the private room of the snooker hall. Graduated to the illegal gambling casinos and some of the larger poker schools. Card games are a more equal way of gambling compared to taking on the house in roulette and such.

Last time I gambled was last week when I had a choice of six Russian prostitutes, one of which was loaded.

I don't see the thrill of gambling really. That said do buy the occasional lotto ticket when I'm feeling comfortable with the finances.

I don't think it's stupid to play the lotto like some people say - for many people the lotto is the only way they'll ever be millionaires so they can either live their lives and have $10 a fortnight more in their pockets to waste on something else or $10 less and a chance to win big.

I only play the lotto maybe twice a year. I do gamble on current events, mostly politics. You can dig up my incorrect Hottest 100 prediction from last year - now I don't offer gambling tips.

My gambling rules are to never gamble when drunk and always tell people about your losses in an equal proportion to your winnings.

That's exactly what I've done as well, I'll only spend 20 dollars and then just play with the winnings, I've been to the casino twice the first time I broke even, the second time I won 50 dollars.

Do you seriously think hitting red or black five times in a row makes any difference to the outcome of the next bet? You would have the same ~50% probably if you walked in cold and plonked your bet on either color.

When you double-up like that you're employing the Martingale betting strategy (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_(betting_system)). It's a sure way to bankruptcy.

I used to play Powerball once a week until they doubled the price, now I play Mega Millions once a week. I do one random quick pick and one of my own random numbers. I know I'll probably never win but I can afford $2.00 a week for a chance, no matter how small, it's still a chance to become a millionaire over night and there are simply no other ways for me to have that chance.

I don't go to casinos or play scratch offs though.

Save all of your lotto and gambling money for 12 months.

Convert it all to $5 notes and then have a family day of darts on Christmas day. (Number 5 gets 5 bucks, 3 darts in 5 you get 15)

The smiles on the Children's faces will be priceless when they win a fist full of five dollar notes. :)

Gambling is so engrained in Australian culture it's jaw dropping, I think lotto is a waste of time but I'm partial to throwing $20 on a footy game occasionally, long as I know they will win and odds are worth it, other than that I can't be bothered, I have a mate with the TAB software that lets him see bets put on in real time using that and $100 each way on big late money he does that 3 days a week, retired so works great.

I think government run "scratchies" are a rort!
You are buying a ticket , hoping to win the jackpot, that may have already been won by somebody else.
They do not (for obvious reasons) publish when a Jackpot scratchie has been claimed, and so people are often buying tickets in something they have no chance of winning.

I dnt seriously think I can determine the outcome of the roulette table on past numbers just find if more comfortable to bet opposite when the same color has came up and there is no 50/50 chance on roulette because of the green 0/00.
I've watched couple YouTube vids about people that have made formulas to get a edge on roulette there pretty interesting and there's even a way to win on craps if you can master the prefect throw and learn how to set the dice.
