I've noticed that the mint sheet packaging the 1 oz gold buffalo coins come in has discoloured two a light yellowish-green colour.

I wanted to keep the coin in it's mint sheet, but now worried it might not be protected anymore.

Does anyone know what has caused the discolouring and if you think I should take the coin out and put it in a capsule?

    Will upload some pics soon.

    Cheers :)

Possible "Break down" in material ...
All plastic do have Life Expectancy , once change colour a sign of break down

Thanks Chip. Is this harmful to the coin? Should I take it out of the packaging?

I would, if I were you.

Sometimes, plastic with plastic contact can cause chemical reaction.
Just like metals with electrons flow as would with plastic

This is the plastic. Anyone else with a gold buff stored not in the plastic? How have you stored them - if in capsules which ones?

I consider mint packaging like this as temporary..

Just some protection meant for short-term storage & transport, until it hits the end-customer's hands.

Seems to me like too many people place way too much importance on it in the secondary market.

Rip that sucker open & toss it in an acrylic capsule! :D

    That's is correct.
If the OPM is soft plastic, chances is , it is made from pvc plastic.
