WDavis website is only a price list...clearly stating his buyback and sell price, if WDavis is buying or selling. This way, everybody know what's the buyback price, rather than 100's people ringing everyday asking 'how much'? I think it is a good idea, as it will cut down the number of inquiry or tyre kicker on the phone. After all, WDavis is a "precious metal recycler" as Captain Kookaburra said once; not a bullion dealer? Same as Univeral Coin Co price list on the internet...it is a guide, as they are not bullion dealer; the are numinastic dealer. Or are you going to kick a fuzz too over it?
Ill make this easier To quote myself Bloomst If peter has no krugerrands in stock but quotes a price, is this misleading? It is truly a question as part of the theme of this thread, not an accusation!
Personally, I think WDavis is completely transparent as you can't buy or place any order unless he has it. Hence, his stock levels are irrelevant and his "Price List" is simply that. I am however more sympathetic to criticisms of other dealers allowing purchases to be added to cart when there isn't any physical stock available, isn't in transit or isn't available same/next day from the maker. Edited for grammar.
In earlier times I had also called Mr Davis and after asking for approximately six or seven items I was interested to purchase I discovered that the price list did not reflect the actual items carried in stock. This is only an invitation to treat. However once you understand this and if Peter does offer those item in stock as quoted in his price list I believe that this is more than fair. Generally when I buy I look at other dealers buy back prices as a basis and try to offer more.
Thanks for your input guys, I find the topic interesting I think it fair to say Peter sets the standard in competitive pricing and as a result is is often quoted in the selling section of this forum. Thinking I'm not the only one who's taken the live price list as his stock list as opposed to a price guide but I could be wrong and no Bloomst I'm not going to kick a fuzz over it or anything else....not sure what a fuzz is actually, weren't the police called that in the 70's? Cheers Alfie
Well I guess putting a price on something that doesn't exist (if one was to think that is was actually a price list) or Ring and organise to Sell Sovereigns to him and knowing he stocks 1966 coins at $x, use that money to buy them only to find that he is out of stock when you go in
I give up You seem to be the only one who doesn't like his business plan It works for him , he designed it to "work for him' Most dealers use it as a guideline aswell And NO he doesn't want your business if you can't walk through the door IT's his business plan & it works for him
Personally i wouldnt turn up anywhere without ringing & confirming they had what i wanted .Ringing & asking about only half the deal you want to do would be your own fault
Spannermonkey Your contradictory manner of communication truly does my head in, "I give up" and then launch into some diatribe that has NOTHING to do with what I was asking, please do as you state, give up!! Thanks again to the other members that offer constructive comments
Whilst its not a great example I'm sure you get the point, unfortunately you are commenting on the persons actions rather than the concept of the question. The first comment about pricing something that doesn't exist, how do you view that?
mmm helpful but thanks for having a go anyway I reckon this part of the thread has gotten a bit silly I think Aurora got it sorted in my mind so cheers for that
Just as a matter of personal interest, has anyone here been offered less than spot by a forum sponsor or members for any of their gold and silver bullion these past few days?
Davis promotes it as a Price List , not as a Stock List. You might well view it as a list of available stock. I view it as a list of the market prices at the very bottom of the range in that market eg his sell sovs price is about the very best you'll get from a dealer if you were looking to buy, same with his 50c price. . Edited to add I didn't realise when typing this reply there was still another page on the thread, some of the posts saying pretty much the same as I did.... apologies...
I missed that post Well put Roman I guess my beef is these sell prices are often quoted as though they are REAL physical stock items. These prices are then quoted on this forum for price comparison when in fact they are really NOTIONAL prices of items that MAY exist So going back to my original comment, is this misleading? So as to assist some posters I am not offering business plan advice, asking for telephonic methodology or courtesy and let's be clear, we are all agreed that his site shows a price list, not a stock list! So any comments going forward if any, please stick to the concept of it possibly being MISLEADING Thankyou
