    newbie here

wanting to just get 1 coloured dragon for my collection and searched coloured dragons on ebay and a heap of them came up, really different variations from the normal red one that i've usually seen and priced quite differently from each other.

can someone shed some light on the different colours, where were they released, which are the more preferred colours, are they a good investment and what is the approx value of each colour?

    thanks

OK, seeing as you are new :)

The1oz coloured dragons were released in several ways, as a 9 coin set in China, all different colours, and then later as a 10 coin set in Australia, same colours but with a bullion coin as well.

Then some of them were re-released for the ANDA coin shows and a couple of other coin shows abroad. The Orange 2oz Perth ANDA show coin did well, and is still offered for around the $300 range, which is more than it sold for at the show.

The other ANDA coins were less spectacular and can still be bought for around the issue price of $90+, Purple, Yellow and I forget the other one. The overseas ones were Blue and another was White. Once again, around the $100 mark.

Most were sold online so it wasn't really difficult to get hold of them, you didn't have to go to the shows.

Then there was a 'specimen" 1/2 oz in Red, about $70 on release, a proof 1oz in red, for about $105, and then a few more in the various bullion sizes, all in red.

Throw in a few more proofs in red, a gilded version and a high relief and it is no wonder it gets confusing.

No they were not a good investment as they are still selling for the issue price. No one seems to care about the colour, more about the show it was released for.

I have most of them, except the 9 and 10 coin sets which go for around $900+

Wow, that was really helpful! Thanks heaps! Any idea of where else I could buy them or is eBay the main option?

EBay is one place, you might get them cheaper, or a few members here might have some spare but they probably won't sell them very cheaply. I have a couple of the ANDA show coins but I have no idea what colours they are, I might have a yellow one but not 100%.

See how you go asking on here in the trade thread, just put up what you are looking for, you might get some responses, if not just get back to me.

    What sizes? Proof or bullion?

Not seen many for sale recently but eBay is usually good for ballpark figures

The coloured versions became a little to over saturated.
A lot of dragons got released. Dragon mania saturated the market and most coloured variants didn't fare well.
The anda 2oz as previously mentioned was the pick up of the bunch. The world money fair Berlin black dragon also did well initially as it sold out rapidly. Pricing has moved down now on all dragon coins.

If looking as an investment I would suggest perusing horses whilst the market is fresh and a good price can be obtained. The money made on issue price on any appreciating coloured dragons has been made. The 2oz anda dragon was the most successful I remember seeing it being listed for around $498 plus and the black dragon over $199. Now the market has settled.

If buying for personal reasons they coins can be appealing to collect however bullion coins have faired better.
