WOW, What a night in the old gold souk. I checked out the two shops Anjali and lakhoo but found better deals at V.Mamilya and Wajdai. Using the advice from other members, I dicided to buy pamp and do a couple of trips in over the next month. Last night I spend just under $3000 AUD and got this little girls. :D
    6 x 5gm
    1 x 20gm
    1 x 10gm
    1 x 2.5gm =62.5gm for $2920 AUD

    1. No you should spread your purchases out over time, for instance buy ~$2000 of gold each purchase
    2. I think the price may fall further so I am waiting a couple more weeks
    3. Im buying 1 oz bars because of the low premium
    4. Not too familiar with which is better but Im buying from the Perth mint just normal 1 oz bars
    5. I doubt it but I dont know much about that
    6. I think its a good idea to always keep some money in the bank for liquidity purposes, I like to leave atleast $5,000

Its all personal opinion but hope thats helpful in some way to you

Smart move sticking to big brands.

A few 100g and 250g cast PAMP bars should be a good way to spend your deployment allowances :p and be easy enough to conceal.

As I assume you got receipts for your purchases, could you post the telephone numbers of the two shops which had the better deals.

Some hotels have their own logos on the bars, might make it collectable. ;)

From my experience i found in Dubai you can purchase jewellery 10 - 20% above spot price depending on the design and bargaining skills you have. I have also tested the 22ct jewellery in my friends Xray machine and actually found it to be .916 unlike buying gold in Asia. I would high recommend buying jewellery from Dubai. As far as bullion is concerned, why bother? You can get great deals online.
